In my opinion many of the manifolds out there are copycat items.
Weiand has a copy of the Performer RPM for example. The
Edelbrock Victor series manifolds is very similar in layout and
port shape to the Port-O-Sonic and Strip Dominator. I don't
really think there are any real innovators in 4 bbl manifold
technology. Probably 90% of the power gains in American V8s
between 1968 and today are from cylinder head development.
The Performer RPM package makes 420 hp on a small (350) Chevy and
the 340 Mopar made 417 hp with 10 fewer cubic inches. So is
Edelbrock equipment only good for Chevys?

Is that book saying the manifolds are of equal performance, or casting? I have
a Strip Dominator (HOL-300-8), and it looks a little different. I can put a
fist under the plenum of the Holley, the Offy is a lower, solid casting (6073).
Both within 5 bucks of each other in PAW catalog.
Equal performance. The Mopar Engine Book actually recommends some modifications to
the Port-O-Sonic for proper fuel distribution. No modifications are required for
the Holley. So for my money I'd do the Holley Strip Dominator.
