Am considering an Offenhauser 360 intake for my 340, anyone out their have
experiance with this manifold? How do they flow? I will be using it with an
Edelbrock carb. Should I go with an Edelbrock intake, or is the Offenhauser
just as good? Thanks for any input.

I really don't like the design of the Offy. It is a low single plane with a
divider down the middle ... not a "real" 180 nor a 360. The runners are all of
about 2" long. There has to be charge robbing between the 3-5 and 4-6 cyls.
I'd go with the Edelbrock or Weiand every time ... tuned runners, "real" 180's
and you can machine the divider if you desire.
If you insist on the Offy I have one painted a nice "273" red.

Depends on which Offy you are considering. If you want a race single plane
intake the Port-O-Sonic is quite good. If you want a street dual plane better
stick with a Performer RPM or the big Weiand.

my opinion of edelbrock is that they are a chevy only item. Offenhauser is
one of the original vendors that chrysler used, and the one being used now
is weiand. for what its worth

Well the Mopar Engine Book lists the Holley Strip Dominator
intake manifold as being the equal of the Offy Port-O-Sonic. So
maybe Holley makes a good manifold?

In my opinion many of the manifolds out there are copycat items.
Weiand has a copy of the Performer RPM for example. The
Edelbrock Victor series manifolds is very similar in layout and
port shape to the Port-O-Sonic and Strip Dominator. I don't
really think there are any real innovators in 4 bbl manifold
technology. Probably 90% of the power gains in American V8s
between 1968 and today are from cylinder head development.

The Performer RPM package makes 420 hp on a small (350) Chevy and
the 340 Mopar made 417 hp with 10 fewer cubic inches. So is
Edelbrock equipment only good for Chevys?

Well the Mopar Engine Book lists the Holley Strip Dominator

Is that book saying the manifolds are of equal performance, or casting? I have
a Strip Dominator (HOL-300-8), and it looks a little different. I can put a
fist under the plenum of the Holley, the Offy is a lower, solid casting (6073).
Both within 5 bucks of each other in PAW catalog.

Equal performance. The Mopar Engine Book actually recommends some modifications to
the Port-O-Sonic for proper fuel distribution. No modifications are required for
the Holley. So for my money I'd do the Holley Strip Dominator.
