Milk thistle fights chemo-induced liver damage

An herb long known for its effects in treating liver disease
has shown promising results in reducing the liver damage
caused by certain chemotherapy drugs.

Chemotherapy-induced liver inflammation and damage, leading
to liver toxicity in some two-thirds of cases, is commonly
reported in children receiving cancer drugs.

Despite the high prevalence of the condition, there is no
effective way to help protect the liver in these sufferers.

A new study finds that the flowers and seeds of milk
thistle, which has been used to treat disorders of the liver
and gallbladder for more than 2,000 years, can lower the
risk of liver damage in these patients.

Children on milk thistle were also somewhat less likely to
need their chemotherapy dose lowered, a common technique
used to lower the risk of liver damage in those receiving
cancer drugs.

The elevation of liver enzymes, an important sign of liver
inflammation, was not commonly reported in these children.

According to the study published in Cancer, silybin, an
active substance found in milk thistle, has antioxidant
properties and can block toxins from breaching cell walls
and causing tissue damage.

A government, of Israel, by Israel, and, for: Israel.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light:
for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. The light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not. The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead,
and Christ shall give thee light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
