I have seen a number of references to DAFNE, and summaries for this
usually state:

'DAPHNE is based on:
* 2 injections of long-acting (Background) insulin each day
* Injecting quick-acting insulin each time you eat
* Testing your blood sugar level before each injection'

I wondered what the long-acting, and the quick-acting insulins were?

Secondly, I believe I have seen mention of Levemir, but I cannot see
how that can be used twice a day as it lasts, so I am told, for 24
hours, so this would mean the 2nd injection would overlap onto the one
done earlier and was still effective.

Anyone help pleeze? Thanks

Some of the insulins that are claimed to last for 24 hours actually
last more or less for many people, so they're better off taking
half as much twice a day.

You'll get faster answers to your other questions if you ask on
alt.support.diabetes, a much more active diabetic newsgroup.

I have not ever heard of "DAFNE" sounds like an acronymn for
something.

In response, go see an endocrynologist as they are your true
diabetes experts. I personally have fought type 2 for some 15
years now and with the help of my EC came up with exactly what
your refering to as DAFNE.

I first took levemir (once per day) in combo with Novaline
Rapid just before meals. It brought my A1C's into perfect
harmony. I then changed to Lantis in the same combo with N-
Rapid, the only reason for the change was my gov plan paid for
lantis but not levemir, both are similar but work slightly
different.

The reason for twice a day injections is only to guarantee a
perfect overlap of the medication as in some people the long
lastings curve falls short of 24 hours. So instead of taking
IE 70 units once a day you take 35 units 2X, your body is
still carrying the same amount of insulin.

I hope this helps, obtw Latis Autopen 24 is a piece of CRAP,
they should look at a novalin pen and learn something.
