Before you buy.
That's quite alright gk :-) You might also want to show him this, which is

It's not opening on my puter, Jason, but I'll send it on to him.
Thanks again.
I forgot to mention that it's a RealAudio stream, so I guess you may not
have RealPlayer?...
Jason
I dumped RealPlayer in favor of WinAmp. Every time RealPlayer kicked
on, my computer would have problems. Of course, none of this has to do
with the fact that I keep 10-14 applications running at once, 6 of which
are netscape windows. *g*
I don't have any problems at all with WinAmp, thankfully, so I can use
it to access online radio stations or to listen to CDs.

W'bat:
I am afraid that you have been deceived.
The Rain forest is NOT the lungs of the planet. The Oceans are the lungs of
the planet.
It is true that trees and grasses take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen,
but this is only true for the daylight hours during the process of
photosynthesis. At night the process is reversed. Then when you take into
account that trees are dormant a good part of the year, and the process of
leaves and timber decaying the trees are in reality a liability (taking more
oxygen than they produce).
The water molecule is made from one atom of hydrogen and two atoms of oxygen
h2o. The waves break up the molecules and release oxygen and hydrogen into
the admosphere.
I know the above is not politicaly correct, so flame onI am wearing my flame
proof undies. ;-)
> So save *BOTH*!!!!
GK:
I never said we should NOT save the rain forest. Just pointing out where the
people were in error.
Speaking of errors I made one earlier today. Water molecules have two atoms
of hydrogen and one of oxygen.

Not unless my backyard extends 2,000 miles and there are about 150 million
people trespassing on my property. ;-)

You should try meditating under a pine tree. ;-)

**** dear 2 Bears :-)))... well if you wanted one that size I'd wish it upon
you ;-)... however, knowing you don't wish to own Mother Earth,... and

No one can own mother earth, She was here long before we came, and will
remain long after we are gone.
I would't do anything with the trespassers. Just ask they treat her with
respect.
While I seem to have missed out on the start of rest thread, Two Bears
makes a very valid point.
Global warming means nothing as we are currently in the middle of an ice
age. Human carbon dixode prodcution will be as a tiny blip upon the
time scale of this earth, for hydrocarbons are nearly already depleted
after only 100 years. The burning and deforestation of South America
has little effect. The ocean stores vast amounts of CO2, absorbed as a
gas and precipitated as limestone.
Ozone depletion is the bigger threat because the UV radiation which was
screened out by the ozone will penetrate the oceans to greater depths
than it has for a long, long time. Cyanobacteria produce oxygen, far
more oxygen than the rain forests have ever produced, and because this
algae lives and makes oxygen only where the light penetrates the
ocean--shallow water--the UV will reach it and kill it as surely as you
and I will die if we receive massive sunburns for every day of our life
without respite.

I am all in favor of protecting the environment. This is the only home we
have, and if we continue to polute it we can polute it to the point where we
can no longer live on it.
There are some people way right saying make all of the money you can, and
way on the left that would restrict us from cutting ANY trees.
What is needed is for pople to look at the problem logicaly and rationaly
and reach a balance.
I recently heard a story that made me feel miserable. Some leftist wackos
were all for saving trees in the northeast no matter what. The trees could
not be cut in this area and the threes grew and grew until they made a
complete canopy where Sunshine could not reach the forest floor and the
ground cover died. When the groundcover died the little animals had no place
to hide from predators and make their homes. The little animals left, and
the predators were forced to leave as well because there was no game to
catch.
Thet ended up protecting the trees, but it might as well be a desert. all
natural diversity is gone. ;-)
There needs to be a balance where the loggers can harvest trees in an
ecological manner. Keeping diversity that the earth needs. and providing
jobs and lumber people need.

*This* is the type of timber industry *I* grew up around. Small
mom-and-pop saw mills that employed a few of the locals. They purchased
timber from local farmers. The farmers told them in which section they
could cut, which trees couldn't be touched, etc. For the farmers, the
timber was their hedge against taxes. In addition, the trees
provide their warmth in the winter in the way of firewood. Also, if too
much timber is cut, your top soil erodes away. They do not want to lose
everything to clear-cutting, so it is done in a sound manner.
I just wish the big corporate mills would go away, and everyone would
practice good sense, taking care of the land properly.

Correct:
There needs to be a balance the but what is eard are radical right in
wanting clear cutting and the radical left that do not want to see one tree
cut.
