I have an old HP 5245L freq counter with plug in 5255A converter module
that I bought long ago and never got around to testing. The converter
module is not working, but the freq counter itself is working with the
main input, but works a bit using the aux in port, so it sounds like it
could be a bad input attenuator, mixer or maybe the 200 MHz oscillator
stuff is not working. I have a copy of the manual and it talks about
working on the cards with extender card while the unit is installed in
the counter. Problem is, there's a metal "casting" all around that the
converter slides into. How does one remove the top cover of the module
and insert extender cards with the case compartment in the way?
Sure would be nice to have freq counting capability up to 12 GHz!
