Does anyone have the pinout for the MC-53DM?

Not the requirements for the modular plug, but the functions of each colored
wire.

With all the electronics in the darned thing, I can't tell where each wire
goes.

Thanks in advance,

Lee,

I have an MC-52DM (not the 53DM), but I think the only difference is the 8-pin plug. Mine is round,
yours is RJ-45 equiv. Anyway, I'm wondering what you mean by "where each wire goes". Are you trying
to convert the modular connector to the round one, or just trying to get the mic to work on a totally
different rig from the Kenwood?

Also want to let you know, even if you match the correct wires for PTT, Up, Down, keypad, etc; the mic
is NOT compatible with other rigs with the same features. I have been told by the techs in the ham
radio store that this is due mostly because of the microprocessor (or "computer controlled chip" as
they actually put it). They didn't specify whether the chip was the one in the mic or one in the rig
itself.

As far as color code for the wires goes, I can open the mic connector and check the wire colors
w/respect to the connector pins. I have no docs on the mic, so taking it apart won't do either of us
any good :-( Sorry I couldn't have been of more help. Kinda like throwing a "life preserver" to a
drowning person, that doesn't have a rope attached to it, so the victim can be pulled back in . . .

Thanks, Steve.

What I meant was, where inside the mic does each wire go - say, the blue
wire... does it go to the Down function? The Up function? Where?

I took it apart, but the circuit disappears (for me, at least) into too many
little surface-mount transistors, the chip, etc. to figure out.

Pretty much need a schematic to determine.

Second best would be the location (pin number) of each color. I dunno if
the numbers would correlate between the round and the modular or not.

Thanks for trying.

I see what you're saying now. I think at this point I would try giving Kenwood a call to see if they
could be of help. I tried this link http://mods.dk/ to see if they might have what you were looking
for. The listing of the MC-xx mics. went up from MC-50 to MC-55 and above. Nothing on the '52 or
'53. (I was looking for mine too).

Happy Hunting.

I do believe it uses some sort of serial protocol to send button presses,
that's where the microprocessor and incompatibility comes in.

MechCD:

That makes sense, what with all the buttons and only a few wires to handle the sigs. OH MY GOD! NOW
my rig is smarter than I AM! Well, that's what I get for being an "appliance operator".
