I just got a used LA-30 and the thing arcs in the control board
locted above the HV rectifier and filter boards. I believe that the
HV is getting to the control board thru the two wire link between the
HV filter and control board. Looks like the only way there.

So I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and if so what
was done about it.

Also, I can not find the HV return on the schematic. I see the
output from the schematic and the HV+ side but no return to ground.
Is there an updated schematic? I did notice that r39 on the control
board has no value indicated. I believe that it is a 10ohm 5W value
since there are two and I only find one on the drawing.

Thanks in advance,

Rob - W3RG

Can you see any discoloration where the arc occurs?

What does the control board control? If it is a regulator for the high
voltage, perhaps its ground connection is loose. Look for a loose
mounting screw. It would help if any mounting screw that provided a
ground connection had an external star lock washer to help make ground
connection and keep the screw from coming loose.

Is the negative side of the high voltage filter capacitors connected to
ground? If so, the ground circuit or chassis may be the HV return.
