Hello all,

I have been told that the removal of IC3 from the CPU circuit board of
my Alinco DJ-190 will allow me to use the 4 cell nicad pack without
having the CPU reset to RX when the voltage drops. I have checked the
schematic and this would appear to be correct. My only problem is that
I can't seem to find IC3. There are approximately 8 IC's that could be
the one and following the traces has been no use in discovering IC3.
Does anyone have any idea which IC to remove?

Thanks in advance.

Here is the only mod that I know of.

22-01-2000 Extending the frequency range of DJ-190E to 130-173.995MHz

1.Press (F)unction and Set (Moni) buttons and release.
2.Press V/M once to display LOC.
3.Rotate VFO until FL is also displayed.
4.Press PTT briefly once.
5.Press (F)unction briefly once.
6.Press V/M briefly twice.
7.Press MW briefly once.
8.Press Set (Moni) briefly twice.
At this point the display should briefly show "Open".
9.Press (F)unction and Set (Moni) buttons and release.
10.Rotate VFO until KL or FL are no longer displayed.
11.Press PTT briefly once.

The radio is now in the wide band mode and will remain there until a factory
reset is performed ((F)unction pressed whilst turning on) be aware however
that a reset
will erase ALL memories.

To turn the DJ190E back to European Mode repeat steps 1-11 above (at step 8.
the display should briefly show "Closed" instead of "Open").

An alternative (permanent) method is to remove R79 for receive range only, or
R79 and either R1008 or R99 (depending on PCB version).

Some people have said that you may then have to go through the steps listed
above once or twice to activate. You should be aware however that this will
invalidate
your warrantee.

20-02-2000 Increase transmit 130.00 & 173.995MHz for DJ-190T

Take the back cover off!
Four screws on the back and two on the side of the CPU board and PTT board!
Fan oper the CPU board! You will see a blue wire like the DJ-C1!
Cut it!
Hold function key turn it on!
Enjoy!

Thankyou to the previous Poster. I had promised a lot of people that I would
Post the Extended TX range Mod about 6 Months ago but I had lost the Mod sheet
which I got when I bought my DJ-190.

I found the Mod sheet a few minutes ago and I was just about to type it out
when I noticed that someone had kindly done it for me, Judging by the amount of
requests that I have had for this Mod. it does not appear to be well known in
North America and I would be very interested to know if it does work on the
DJ-190T models.

I prefer the software Mod to the hardware Mod and I often reset my 190 before I
go through Customs controls in countries where I am unfamiliar with their laws
relating to the posession of Wideband receivers/transmitters. Indeed the
software modification sheet that came in the box of my Alinco 190 appears to
have been written by Alinco themselves and explains that many countries do not
allow the importation of Wideband transceivers in some countries.

hello all,

I can attest that the wideband TX mod (cutting the blue wire on NA models) does in
fact work. The person this was done for had a business band license and wanted to
TX on his allocated frequencies so it was on the up an up. Worked well except that
we had to find the right tone to activate the Rx on his other radios.

I am looking for the battery mod which allows low voltage batteries to be used.
This mod involves removing IC3 from the CPU board. The only problem I have is that
I cannot trace back to IC3 from the CPU pin 34 (BU reset). Does anyone know which
IC, by location, is IC3?

Thanks,

Michel

My Alinco DJ-190E was supplied with a 4.8volt battery and off the top of my
head it would seem to me that 4.8 volts is a relatively low voltage for a
Handheld Transceiver.

It might help if you specified the Voltage that you want to use on your Alinco
DJ-190?

I am currently using 4.8 to 6 volts. The problem arises when the ptt is pushed.
A momentary drop in battery voltage is normal and expected, however IC3 on the CPU
board relays this low voltage to the CPU via pin 34 and cuts the Tx off.
Unfortunately the low voltage is momentary as the draw on the batteries is
increased. Tx with even slightly used batteries becomes impossible. Removing IC3
solves this problem by removing the reset signal.

What I want to know is which chip is IC3.

Thanks,

Michel

<< What I want to know is which chip is IC3. >>

IC3 is on the CPU board on the RH side over the CPU chip. Looking at the CPU,
go up and slightly to the right. There will be a trimmer cap with 2
"transistor" type chips below and to the left. These are IC's 2 and 3. IC2 is
the closest to the trimmer cap, IC3 is closer to the fixed caps in the center
of the board.

I've the manual if anyone wants scanned prints. Michael, I've scanned the page
and will email to you.

Does anybody know how to simply turn down the RF output on
the low power setting? 1.5 watts is just too much my the
4 AA's in my battery pack, I only get about 3 minutes of
talk time. Also, I really only need about .5 watt or less.
Would love to make the batteries last longer. Thanks for
any help,

Ryan

Sir,

On page 8 of my manual for the DJ-190 under the heading "Power Setting" it says
"Press and hold the F key and press the Lamp key to select the desired output
power setting, when the "L" ( Low ) icon is NOT displayed on the bottom left of
the LCD, the radio is set on the high power setting."

On page 5 of my manual it says the low power setting output is approximately
0.8 watt.

Regards,

Paul.
