using toothpaste to clean the drain in a sink

Here's an obhack: you have a brass drain in a bathroom sink, and it's
starting to get corrosion and other things on it. Well usually you have
to replace it, but in the mean time using lime-away or other cleaners
just don't work right.

So I tried using toothpaste and a scrub brush (not a toothbrush) and it
seemed to do pretty well. Looks a lot better, anyway. That which the
lime-removing cleaner wouldn't remove went away when i applied
toothpaste and scrubbed for a bit.
