Friend Looking for Dehumidifier for Safe

get me a good one of these" often from friends.
A good friend of mine just bought a good sized gun safe... He wants to put
it in the basement but it's sometimes damp there. So he wants to plug in a
dehumidifier inside the safe.
Are there good sources for this stuff that I can send him to rather than
trying to find it for him?

There are two ways to go. One is the packets of chemicals that you put in
the safe and the other is the heater types.

Looks like the heat rods are essentially just heating elements to raise the
temperature. ...Would a small, efficient light bulb do the same thing?

The light bulb near the same wattage would work just as well. You probably
do not want to use one of the newer CFL types. Only problem with light bulbs
is they burn out very often. The object is to raise the temperature high
enough so moisture will not condense inside the safe.
Yes,all the Golden rod type of elements do is creat heat. Anything that
will creat heat can be used. Just don't want to got it too hot or use too
much power to drive up the cost of the electric bill.
You being in the industral machine business, you probably have seen the
cabinets that keep welding rods from doing the same thing. That is the same
as the Golden rod type heaters.

I have to do the math, but being a virtually-sealed cabinet, I'm thinking a
small kid's night light would work just fine...
...Or I'll just stop being a cheap-o and buy the golden rod.
