I saw them, too. They were the opening act for (I think) ELP. Mitch
Mitchell was the drummer. They were impressive in concert, and Lawton
was great. I bought their abum after that and discovered that the songs
actually stank.
The band put out one more record and then broke up. I've spent some
internet search time looking for April Lawton, and I can't find a clue.
She seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
Yes, I remember now, the Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer, Mitch Mitchell and I
believe one of the guys in the band was blind. Maybe if I do a search on Mitch
Mitchell or something, it might turn up Ramatam or April Lawton ? I loved the
song Wild Like Wine !

Tom Dowd produced 1972's self-titled debut from Ramatam, a poor-man's Blind
Faith featuring co-author of The Blues Image hit "Ride Captain Ride Mike
Pinera on guitar and vocals, and Mitch Mitchell on drums. The "star" of this
group was alleged to be April Lawton, a chick who had the Hendrix riffs down,
to be sure, but not as creative as Robin Trower and all those other gents who
carried Jimi's sound and stylings into the seventies.
April appears as a guest player on a CD by another female rocker named Jaye
Foucher - they both can play circles around most guys !

Jaye Foucher claims she
doesn't to know April from
Adam, er, I mean Eve. :-(

Really!?! Cool! What do you remember about the recording sessions? Was
Mitch Mitchell on that album, too?
Mitch had moved on by those
sessions, as had the two
Blues Image guys, Mike and
Russ -- that incarnation of
Ramatam was April, Tommy,
and Jimmy Walker. I was
called in for "Bounty On My
Table," which was kind of a
CS&N-style acoustic thing
with April on lead vocals.
I'm really sorry I never
got to work with Mitch, but
he and his wife were pretty
heavy-duty junkies back
then, which was really
disruptive. I understand
he's been clean for a long
time -- the last word I had
about him was that he was
living in Nashville.

I heard she is, or was, a man. Or something. Whoever she was, she
could play.
Who are you talking about??? The New Yorker - Melanie Ray La-Pierre??
