I looked at a Bolt 100 about a year ago. I liked it a lot (I don't
know how well it translates to the 60). It was heavy, it was loud, it
sounded nice clean and the distortion was bad or good depending on the
guitar. I remember it sounding very nice with humbuckers, maybe not so
nice with singles. It was too big for me which is why I passed. It
switched between 100 and 50 or 60 watts. I don't think I knew it was
an ss pre at the time so I wasn't being snobby about it....so bottom
line is...I liked it. I know they were made to compete with Mesa
Boogie...but I think they had their own sound....whether it was a good
or bad sound is open for debate. I'd buy one if it was cheap.
If the price is right, I'd grab it. They take pedals well but the
onboard overdrive kinda blows. The problem is likely an easy fix.
Check the plate load resistors in the phase inverter......they were a
weak spot in the design that caused the symptoms you describe.
I think you're not far from the selling price. If it's dirt cheap, I might
grab it.

Thanks. I'll see how much she wants for it and snap it up if it's virtually
nothing.

"In the outside world I am a simple geologist, but in here I am Falcor,
Defender of the Alliance." - Randy Marsh - 4 October 2006
There's a site at http://bolt60.no.sapo.pt/ that mentions a few mods for
reducing hum and altering tone. It's a bit lacking in detail but I guess
it's a starting point.
Apparently there was a design flaw in the standby switch where it turned off
the plate voltage but not the screen voltage, causing excessive screen
current. That seems like an "oops" moment if ever there was one!
