I sell vintage guitars on ebay from time to time, there is a scam that started
a short while back, I guess my number came up because these low life piece's of
shit did it to me.. I listed my Gibson FF-82 Korina Heritage Flying V on 1-7-03
ebay item number 936214643, on 1-14-03 this guy generate_guitar used my entire
auction, text, pictures right down to the periods except under buyer he has his
ebay name, his ebay number is 2501058883, this jerk will not return my emails,
ive reported it to the fraud dept at ebay, " They are absoulutly Brain Dead and
could not care less".. So I filed a report with the FBI in Oakland, CA office
this morning.. Long story short, this has happened to about 20 some other
vintage guitar sellers.. Ive received Numerous email from ebay collectors
informing about this person or persons who listed my Flying V and said this has
been happening latley.... Since the guy who listed my V won't return my emails,
I had a friend of mine send him an email saying he wanted to buy it, the guy
replyed back in less then 30 minutes.... Ive got all the emails back and forth
from my friend and this guy named Ad Ki....... He want's a money gram sent to
him in Italy for the guitar and he said he will stop the auction... I turned
all these letters over to the FBI, Ive been sending him about 20 emails a day
talking about his mom and calling him everyname in the book trying to get a
reply..... his home email address is: generat...@yahoo.com He is a SCUM
BAG..... Ive done alot of digging on these guys, here is what you want to watch
out for, ZERO Feedback, all of these auctions they listed using some one else's
photos and adds were listed the Very Same Day they became an ebay member.. On
my guitar He became a member on Jan. 14, 03 and listed my guitar on Jan. 14,
03...... Anyway, be careful with these Dirt Bags.. Im pissed and if anybody
wants to email this Prick, feel free.... again his email address is:
generat...@yahoo.com, or if anybody knows anything about this person, drop
me a line.. Its a shame people like this even exist.... Also, they used a
stolen credit card and address to sign up to become an ebay member, after
telling ebay this, there response was basically, Oh well..... and the guys add
with my guitar is still running..... The FBI person I spoke with today said
Ebay has Big Troubles Right Now..... Thanks for Reading......... Sincerely,
Randy Miller.........

Thanks for the info. I just joined Ebay but I doubt I will be doing any buying
and selling now.

Yeah, interesting note, but I see no reason to do anything different than I
always have on ebay. I know folks have to start somewhere, I did, but I am
still very skeptical of anyone with zero feedback. Even more so if they do not
promptly answer email. I have completed well over a thousand transactions on
ebay with only one that I can remember that went south. You just have to be
careful as you can and hope for the best and check feedback.

Let me see if I got this. You didn't actually lose any merchandise?
He used your posting to advertise (fake) for him?
As a seller he had 0 feedback and he became a member on the same day he posted the ad?

Sucks that he stole your ad for a scam but any idiot that buys anything over $20 from
a zero and AND a new member deserves what they get.

Yes that's true, that you have to start somewhere, the main problem I have is
that my FF-82 V shows up with the EXACT same writing and picture's and a
picture of the serial number in another auction 2 days before my auction ends
and the last minute bidders started emailing me and do not bid because this
idiot put dought in the mind of the bidders.. I wouldn't bid if I saw 2
auctions of the same exact guitar by 2 different sellers at the same time....
This person is ruining the creability of a seller like myself.. I have 260
positives and No negative.... I just now saw another Korina Flying V that just
ended on ebay and now this new seller has his listed, same pictures same
add.... There are people new to ebay that would think there getting a deal and
send the money, you or I would not, but a new person to ebay might....... And
this is going on in All catagories of ebay, not just guitars.... Fucked up
people out there....

So you were never new to something and made a mistake? At least this
guy is trying to help some people other than himself and get a scam
artist out of the picture.
Also, I'm sure it's in the interests of a few of the people here for
the guitar category on E-Bay not to become infested with con artists.

Yea, I understand how it hosed your auction. That sucks.

I guess I am just saying as scams go, this one will not impact my ebay'ing.

Its not going to change my dealings on ebay either, Im just passing on what
happened to me and is happening to others, You can take it or leave it I don't
care.. If one person is ready to send some money on an item and its one of
these guys and he remembers my letter, then that's all that matters.... Ive
been in my own business for 35 years, I just thought the info would be welcome
to buyers who deal on ebay.... Im never to old to learn or welcome others
input, listening to others who have been screwed makes me a better businessman
in the long run.... Thanks to you guys who welcome my info.. Have a nice
day.... Randy.......

Hey Randy,
I think my earlier post went across wrong maybe. I do appreciate the heads
up, but at the same time when you look at the auctions and the feedback and
take it all into consideration no one should fall for that scam. Oh yeah, I
know they do and you can put should in any sentence, but still....I am sorry if
my response was taken in the wrong way. I guess my post was meant more toward
the guy that said he was new to ebay and was not going to use it. I am saying
that ebay is okay if you are careful and always skeptical of anything that
don't smell exactly right.

I'll agree...ebay can be great, and I've done a number of deals from
newsgroups and ebay deals off-ebay after an item has ended without hitting
reserve. Always check things out...in my case that means someone who
responds to email, feedback if it's an email deal, a real email address
instead of a hotmail account, a real snailmail address, a real phone number,
and ways to verify the names, numbers and addresses. If you can't poke
around a bit and track someone down, if a deal doesn't smell just right,
then don't do it. Sending a cash equivalent to a p.o. box foreign country
on a zero-feedback just created ebay user with a yahoo account...that is
just plain stupid.

as for ebay, it takes a little while for complaints to run through and get
items pulled. I have no idea how you discovered the bad guy used a bad
credit card to open the ebay account...that seems fishy...but ebay will
usually kill totally fraudulaent auctions within 48 hours of being informed
about it. You told them yesterday. as for the FBI, lots of freaking luck,
especially if the bad guy is overseas.

The bigger problem comes up if PayPal is involved. The way PayPal
typically "solves" the problem of someone getting ripped off is that
they freeze the account of THE GUY GETTING RIPPED OFF. In other words,
he can't get access to his own money, even when people are depositing
into that account.

Sounds like it couldn't possibly be true? Check out:

That is a great idea and I though of that the same day, the problem is he
copyed and pasted my pictures and text somehow on his auction and just changed
the sellers name to his ebay name.... when I spoke to ebay on the phone, she
looked up the auction while I was talking to her, I ask how did he do this
since you have to fill out a form, she said Gee, I never heard of this, she had
me speak to another person there at ebay and they said the only way to do this
is to copy and paste the pictures and text, so the pictures are copied on his,
unless I have his pass word, I can't get in to change anything.... deleting my
pictures will not do anything to his auction since his are pasted on there.. I
just got a letter from ebay, Ive had it.... Its done, there no help.... To
answer another person's response here, I too have gotten some really good deals
to, I collect 18th century globes, Ive bought numerous latley, so yes, there is
alot of good with ebay, they just got to big to quick and like any other
business in Calif. they don't have the man power to police every complaint that
comes in or even run the place properley.. thats why they don't have a phone
number for the Safe Harbour Dept. you have to email them and wait for a
reply... I will still do business with them, ebay is just a hobby for me, so no
big deal, but im going to be alot more careful before sending large amounts of
money overseas for Globes and things.... Thanks for all you guys letters, Be
Careful and have a nice day, Randy......

He cut and pasted your textand picture url's, but not the actual pictures.
those pictures are linked from your aol web pages. Put some other
undesirable pictures up WITH THE EXACT SAME NAMES asap! you can't change
the web addresses he's using in his ad, but you can change what those
addresses are linked to. You're not talking to the proper people at ebay.

CHANGE THE PICTURES NOW! MAKE SURE THE NEW PIX HAVE THE EXACT SAME NAME!

Ahhh yes, the infamous family pet and car shots ;)

Having the first one saying the auction is a scam (use some sort of paint
program) would be even nicer, maybe reference your prior auction number.

But the oversized slow-loading pet pix are nice.

That's a good idea.... there is a $15 grand bid on it right now by the high
bidder thanks to one of the newsgroups guys.. I was thinking of bidding 20
grand, run up the price of the guitar so it show 20 grand on the auction, get
this guys heart racing thinking he is going to be rich and then right before
the end of the auction pull my bid and use ebays listing, reason for retracting
bid, could not get ahold of seller. I want to Fuck this guys head totally up..
I think that might do it.. Ive got all positives, so having one bid retraction
show up on me feedback really wouldn't bum me out to bad.... I just might do
that.. or if everybody bid and ran this thing to a hundred grand, this guy will
be sweating........ Thanks guys, Randy....

I started writing this, then checked the scam ad and found ebay has finally
pulled it... but I'll post this anyway...

From the perspective of keeping your longterm reputation intact on ebay,
don't. You have every right to name whatever pictures you want on your
server, and if you want nekkid chix on there, that's the problem of the guy
who is linking to your pictures. Coming up with false i.d.'s or otherwise
interfering with an auction is a violation of the ebay TOS agreement. It's
unlikely the scammer will bitch too much, but keep in mind that in sports
it's often the guy who retaliates against getting smmacked who gets the
penalty.

IF I were the kind of guy who wanted to mess with this auction, I'd use a
totally fake ebay i.d. not linked to me in any way easily determined.

For a totally legal and proper way to mess with the guy, alter the first
picture that is linked from your web site to include a link to the google
groups search page that features this thread:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=20030115205810.12
532.00000014%40mb-ci.aol.com&rnum=5&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Debay%2Bscam%2Bkorina%
2Bgibson%2Bflying%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26filter%3D0

So anyone new would be able to see the entire gruesome story.
