Seeking opinions on who I should contact for recones.
Also, if you know this speaker, what do you think of it? I'd like to
spring for JBL D-120's, but my wallet doesn't agree.
Some suggest Eminence Legend 1258 as a replacement. Opinions?
Suggestions for other replacements?
You could take a look at WeberVST. Their model 12F150T is a Fender-y
sounding speaker, modeled after the old Jensen P12N (the high-power
speaker in the Jensen series). I like them a lot more than stock
Fender Oxfords. I believe Weber has a 15% off promo in effect.

Weber could probably do recones if you want to stay with your Oxfords.
I've got a couple Fenders with Oxfords, and they sound ...hmmm
average, I guess. There's something to be said for the less efficient,
relatively 'straight' vanilla speakers that they used. You can crank
the amp more. And neutral speakers don't jump out front or dominate
the tone of the amp like some more efficient speakers.
JBL's are nice, and they'd be loud, but do you want to carry those? (I
trust that you're not looking to get the amp to break up.) If you
have no problem with the weight, you could also consider EV SRO's or
Altec 417's if you can find them.
In that same domain, Weber has their "High Power Series":
The "California" is modeled after the JBL.
The "Michigan" is modeled after the EV SRO.
Celestion 75 watters. G12T-75. Spendier than the Eminence. Still good
clean drivers.

Hmmm. I do NOT like them for Marshall, but haven't played them with a
clean Fender.
Interesting.... funny, I've never tried a 1936 with a Marshall head...
but the Marshall models on the SCXD work great thru it. Gotta watch
the treble on 'em...

The 1936 is closed back, but they're very nice for clean Fender.
