I've been experimenting with picks lately. My favourite picks are the
Jim Dunlop Tortex .88mm and Pickboy Hi-Graphite .75s (the ones with the
stupid ganja leaf on them). I like them because they have the stiffness
of a very heavy pick but allow the control that you can get with a
thinner pick without it bending (a standard nylon Fender/Gibson heavy
bends too much while I'm playing). They don't slip out of my fingers
during fast riffs like a nylon pick does either. The problem, however,
is that I wear them out very quickly, particularly the Hi-Graphite ones,
so when I went on-line to buy more I was quite interested to see these:

http://www.jim-dunlop.co.uk/products/productdetail/JD+ULTEX+STANDARD+.73mm+PACK+OF+6/part_number=421P73/708.1.4.3.16127.46498.0.0.0?

I'm hoping that 'virtually indestructible' means that they'll last
longer than a rehearsal session. Since they seem to be very inflexible
but not too heavy they're worth a look anyway. The blurb is a bit
cringe-inducing but they look like they're worth a try so I ordered two
or three along with some more of the Tortex .88s to keep me going for a
couple of weeks.

Merely my opinion

I found that I loved the "COOL" X-Heavy 1.2mm for years but once
I picked up the little red Jazz III picks about a year ago and have to
say-- for me, those are killer. Love 'em.

I reckon the Dunlop Tortex Sharps can't be beaten. I use the pretty purple
ones.

They look to be copies of the Clayton Ultem Gold picks....which I use
exclusively. Been wanting to check them out and see how they stack up
against the real deal. They are cheaper by quite a bit.

I use the Ultex in the Jazz III configuration most of the time. When I use
a standard shape it's usually a 1.14 or 1.5 mm Gator Grip.

I'm a big fan of the Ultex picks. They have a nice "snap" without
sounding like hard plastic. Sadly, they are invisible on almost any
surface when dropped.
