If anyone has any bassists who should be on the list, please let me
know!
So far, I've come up with John Entwistle, Tom Peterson, Nikki Sixx,
and Maya Ford (The Donnas), and Chris (?) of Nirvana. Not a great
start, but a start, anyway!
Thanks!
Mike
Simon Gallup (sp?) of the Cure used one for all but twoof the tracks on
Bloodflowers. There's an entire DVD of it (Trilogy). HTH
Peter Overend Watts of Mott The Hoople
Frankie Poullain of The Darkness
I can add Lenny Kaye from the Patti Smith Group, Arthur Kane from the New
York Dolls, Sam Yaffa in his days with Hanoi Rocks and the bassist from Ash
whose name escapes me right now!

Thanks for the information AND for the availability of a picture with

I didn't know Way played a Thunderbird, and I was unaware he played
with Fastway. Was that while Jerry Shirley was still there, or are we
talking about a different Fastway?

A Peabody Prep graduate playing bass? For a living?
Had a distant cousin that went there, walked away with piano, violin,
composing, ....all kinds of stuff. Funny thing though, with all the
players in the family, never once saw her pick up a guitar. Guess she
figured that there were already too many in the family. :)
He does everything for a living - plays drums (as he will be doing for
our gig on Friday), teaches, plays guitar, writes, and records....
Truly a remarkable musician... Glad I hooked up with him.

Kinda miss the old town. But then I look at the weather up there and
decide here is better. I am getting rather tired of dodging
hurricanes though. :/
Well, he was the "way" in Fastway, but hge quit the band even before the
first record came out. On the back cover were photos of Fast Eddie
Clarke, Jerry Shirley, and Dave King...there was no bass player
pictured...ISTR there being a bass player credited, but I don't have
that LP any more, so I don't know who it was. Maybe Eddie played bass on
it?

I think Brian Wheat from Tesla played one occasionally. Didn't Leon
Wilkeson from Lynyrd Skynyrd use one, too? Maybe Leon's replacement is
the guy I'm thinking of...I saw something on VH-1 Classic...it could be
new footage, I wasn't paying that much attention, to be honest. Skynyrd
really hasn't turned my crank for a umber of years.

The old town isn't that great... I'm sure where you are you're having a
good time. I'm a transplanted New Yorker... I miss the old town too, but
I know I'm better off :)
Nope. Italian food here sucks. Nobody can steam a crab or make crab
cakes to save their life. But......
See, that doesn't sway me. As long as there's good Chinese Food in town,
I'm okay....
You sound like the end of 'Goodfellas' - "I ordered spaghetti and tomato
sauce, and I got chinese noodles and ketchup" :)
Have to agree - isn't much great Pizza here...
Fastway was named after him - 'Fast' Eddie Clarke, and Pete WAY -
however, he left before the recording of the first album - and I'm not
sure if he ever came back. Shortly thereafter, he formed WAYsted...
But, in the beginning, it was with Jerry Shirley.
Hows this for a strange coincidence......... my bass player turned up for
last nights practice.................... with an epiphone Thunderbird! I
have to say that for the £230 he paid for it I'm impressed. It really
'growls'!!

Still can't find a picture of Lenny Kaye with a Thunderbird though.

Just looking down your list, I can add a couple more T-Bird players:
* Paul Rudolph of Hawkwind and Pink Fairies: He was Lemmy K's
replacement after Lemmy left Hawkwind (to form Mötörhëäd). Paul
played T-Bird on the Hawkwind's incredibly spacey "Warior On The
Edge Of Time" album.
* Martin Turner of Wishbone Ash: Martin Turner was probably the
first bass player to make a name for himself playing the T-Bird
(starting in the 1969/70 time period). Nikki Sixx and others
have mentioned Martin Turner as an early influence. Martin Turner,
along with the likes of Chris Squire, John Entwistle, and John
Wetton were part of the vanguard that pushed the bass to the
forefront of the mix with bass solos, riffs, and gnarly tones.
As for my experience with the Gibson Thunderbird, I owned and played
a 2-humbucker'd 1976 reverse Thunderbird for several years. Even
though I liked the T-Bird's deep tones, I eventually got tired of
dealing with the neck-heavy demeanour of the beast and sold it back
in the late 1980s. I really wished that my old T-Bird had a
*non-reverse* body -- I'm sure I would have kept it.

I think Novoselic used an Ibanez bass.
Yes, it was, errr... Rossington,I believe, that played a FIREbird on
certain classic Skynyrd tracks.
However, I'm fairly certain the 2 (?) bass players that were in
the 1970s-era Skynyrd did not regularly play a T-Bird. The first
Skynyrd bass player played a Gibson EB-2 semi-hollow bass (has a
30-inch scale), then later switched to a Fender P-Bass.
I recalled seeing a picture many years ago -- maybe 1975 or so -- of
the Doobie Brothers playing in concert. A couple of them were playing
Firebirds and the bass player was playing a Thunderbird.
