Google is slow, I'm spending time on the computer and net, and thought
I'd post. I have a Triggs 2. Hollow body with the teardrop holes. Best
thinline I've ever had. Love the guitar. My all time favorite. Love
the Mighty Mite pickups. They are superb. Don't know anything about
the solid bodies you are considering, or how the MM pickups would
sound in them. Mighty Mite has a website. This is actually Cort, and
you can talk to somebody about Cort guitars through the phone number
there. I took a chance on my Triggs 2 on Ebay. Fine guitar. Quality
control the best. Gibson and Gretsch, take a hike. No shit. The only
thing I saw compare was a super nice Guild.

That's great to hear. I've been thinking about a thinline as well..... maybe
I should try out a Triggs if I can find one.

I'll throw in that the Larry Coryell model archtop is probably the best
one I've ever seen at the price range. Even the Duncan Designed pickups
aren't too shabby. Mostly though, it plays like a dream and the
acoustic tone is amazing. Now they have real Duncans, which must make
it even better.

I'm very impressed with the Corts I've seen.

So MM is Cort? I remember Mighty Mite as a seller of aftermarket bits and
pieces, including pickups, from way, way back -- possibly as long ago as the
70s. Did Cort emerge from MM, or vice versa? How long has Cort been branding
stuff under its own name, anyway?

I demo'd a Matt Murphy MGM-1 and was amazed that they could pull off
this level of workmanship for under $400. I think these go for around
$300 on e-bay.

I heard that Hamer contracts CORT to make the Hamer import models???
Not sure if this is true though.

Now, this is where usenet and I part company. I've told you that you
can call yourself. Do it. I don't have time to spin round and round.

Why don't you... CALL CORT THROUGH MIGHTY MITE LIKE I TOLD YOU THAT
YOU COULD DO, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD?!

It is shit like this that makes usenet such a waste of time.

Sorry JM. There is an obvious reason why I call myself, "Cranky."
Because I often am. It is just that the go round and round thing
starts to wear on usenet. You can find out for yourself what is going
on with a phone call.

Umm, back to the original question... I took delivery of my Cort M600
about a week ago. Had to wait approx, a month. Paid $399 in Ohio. My
other guitar is a MIM Strat, 4 months old. Both guitars were sort of
impulse buys..the Strat when I was visiting my brother in Atlanta. He
was down in the dumps, we had a few beers , visited GC and my new hobby
was born. Haven't played since college 20 years ago. Love my Strat and
really want to get serious this time around. Anyway, I was looking at
EPI LPs when MF had them marked down. Read a couple postings about the
Cort M600, did a little research and laid down the money. I am IN LOVE
with it. Now, I don't know crap I'll admit, but this guitar is gorgeous
(honeyburst). It feels perfect to me; weight, scale, action, my fingers
flew up and down the neck. I took some pics of it at work and when I get
bored I run a slideshow of it! I know none of this really means squat to
you guys, but I'm thinking about it at work, and playing it whenever I
have any free time at home. Using a Fender Frontman 25 I hear the
difference between my Strat, but the main thing is it 's just more fun
to play. I feel like I'm holding an instrument that's worth a lot more
than I paid.. can't say the same about the Fender (although I DO respect
Strats, in fact I was going to buy another American, but couldn't
justify the price diff). The humbuckers pop with sound, I do like the
clean sound on the Fender slightly more than on the Cort, but I haven't
experimented long enough to be sure.
Wrapping up, I cannot find a flaw of any kind in the Cort's
physique...beautiful mahogany, thick maple cap, sweet abalone inlays,
well..it almost makes me blow off work to stay home and play (not a
brilliant idea nowadays). I am very, very happy with mine. I don't see
how you could possibly be disappointed.

Ummmmm, actually I can't call Mighty Mite or Cort or anybody else in the US.
I'm in South Africa where even US toll-free numbers cost me several dollars
a minute (and my currency is 10 to the dollar). You might have picked up my
location from my original post.

Apology accepted, nonetheless. But I disagree that it would be a waste of
your time or anyone else's if you explained the relationship between Cort
and MM as it was explained to you on the phone. Your reply would go into the
Google archive and then many people like me wouldn't need to ask the
question again. At the moment, there's almost nothing about Cort the
company.

I'd love to ask them, but I can't. I'm in South Africa!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I went and played several Corts in the
shop yesterday but, sadly, the only M-600 they had was cursed with very old
strings and the tone was unimpressive. Same thing for their only CL-1000. An
M-700 (the M-600 with a Wilkinson trem) sounded and played very nicely
indeed, as it did the last time I fiddled with it. But I don't want a guitar
with a trem (I have enough of those). And I'm wondering, probably
erroneously, whether the M-700 has premium pickups along with its other
zooty hardware. So I'll go back next week, by when they've promised to
restring the M-600 and CL-1000, taking my own tube amp, Pod and headphones.
I'm also going to play a whole lot of Epi LPs to make sure prejudice isn't
blinding me. And other stuff too, including a couple of Cort MGMs. Hah! I
have a pleasant day off ahead.

I'll second that. I own one of these with duncan designed pups. Amazing
value, great build quality. I can't fault it. I just can't play it as nice
as it looks.

I'll admit that any company can change and improve quality. With that said,
my only dealings with Cort guitars were a couple of years ago at some shops
I visited on vacation. They mostly carried the Cort strat copies and I was
less than impressed with them. The quality on those were well below average
with uneven fretwork, poor pickups and other quality control problems. At
that time I would not have even recommended them for beginner guitars (they
were that bad IMHO). I also will point out that sometimes the most expensive
guitars just don't feel "right" to some folks for whatever reasons (in my
case, I just don't care for the PRS guitars that I have tried - can't put my
finger on why, I just know the ones I have tried just don't feel "right" for
me). Over time I have discovered that if one is happy with the guitar, it
don't matter whose name is on the headstock. Best to try before you buy
whenever possible.
