I thought I would post some favorite patches for the ADA MP-1 that I
use. Mine has no mods to it other than having the Mesa ultra low
noise preamp tubes (SPAX7?). These tubes didn't make much difference
BTW. The biggest difference for me is using an EQ in the effects loop
to give more tone control for the distortion patches. The patches
below all have the EQ in the loop. I use a Scholz EQ but any good EQ
will work. The bands are preset as follows:

62Hz +3db
125HZ +3db
500Hz -9db(this is the most important tweak)

This midrange tweak smooths the sound out considerably.
I am using a MosValve 80 watt stereo power amp and 2 Marshall 4 x12 cabinets
with Celestion Vintage 30's. I used single 12 EV's for the last 3 years or
so until recently switching to the Marshalls. The EV's have an even greater
peak at 500Hz.

I also use a BBE 422 Sonic Maximizer. This adds a subtle clarity to the
sound. I use it with the ADA but not with other preamps I have.

Here we go!

This patch is good for a lighter distortion/bluesy tone. It gives me a
good Wind Cries Mary tone with the volume knob turned down to around 7
on the guitar. The guitar has a 500K DiMarzio Custom Taper pot and a
22pf capacitor (to not roll off the highs when turning the knob), and
Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks in it. Running the guitar full up will yield
a medium distortion tone for chording.

OD1: 3.8
OD2: 2.2
Master 5.5
Bass +4
Mid -4
Treble -2
Pres 2
Depth 0
Rate 0
Voice Tube distort

This patch is for basic power chord rythym playing with humbucker, AC/DC
ZZ Top etc. I also get a good Robben Ford lead tone VERY similiar to
"The Brothers" on Robben Ford and the Blue Line.

OD1: 3.0
OD2: 4.0
Master 4.0
Bass +4
Mid -4
Treble -2
Pres 0
Depth 0
Rate 0
Voice Tube distort

I use this with a very small room reverb sound (.8secs) set very dense.
Lexicon has a factory reverb in the PCM70 called "Headbanger plate" that
this reverb is similiar to. I also use a very small amount of delay at
135ms to simulate a more live room.

This patch is a good singing lead tone that will feedback at reasonable
volumes. I like it for Larry Carlton,Santana,Landau type tones.

OD1 4.6
OD2 4.8
Master 5.0
Bass +6
Mid -4
Treble -2
Pres -2
Depth 0 (optional to use 16 here and a rate of .3)
Rate 0
Voicing Tube distort

For effects, I like a medium room sound (2.0 seconds) and a stereo delay
set at the correct tempo. I have one patch in the Intellifex set to
375 in one side, 750 in the other with different feedback rates. The
effects are not mandatory by any means.

This patch is another lead tone. While not as distorted, it has a
punchy clarity that I like for some power ballads.

OD1 3.6
OD2 4.4
Master 5.5
Bass +6
Mid -4
Treble 0
Pres 2
Depth 0
Rate 0
Voice Tube distort

As you can see from the settings, the majority of the tonal variation
comes from the settings of the tube gains. The tubes sound like they
are hooked in series so changing OD1 affects OD2 since there is
less signal being supplied to it.

Even for a metal type tone, I never run the gains over 5. The tone
turns to mush and the noise level gets uncontrollable (I am using the
programmable HUSH in the Rocktron Patchmate for noise reduction which
is mandatory on the ADA for quiet operation).

Hope this is interesting.

Along the same line, of better sounds with the ADA MP-1. But instead of patches
this my suggetion for setup, actually it would work for any preamp setups.
from my MP-1: A(out) to MidiverbII, B (out) dry, effect (out) to ADA Pitchtrak
all of these into a six channel Rolls single space rackmount mixer. From mixer
(stereo out) into stereo eq, then a Rocktron HushII, then to Boogie 50/50
power amp. Just an idea as far as setup, but the main point is that I found it
much more versatile running it thru a mixer first, not to mention better
control of your over all sounds. And also you can always control how much effec
ts or dry sounds you get, and actually get each to sound good by it self, or
complementing each other. Actually I'm in the process of trying to run the effe
cts using the effect loop on the mixer. So if you get your hand on a mixer try
it out I think you'll be suprise in the differnet in the sound you can get, I
did before I bought the Rolls mixer (there is a Rane 6 channel mixer but out of
my price range).
