I recently sent my Godin LGX-SA in for some repair after three rounds with
the local dealer. After telling me they would repair whatever problems were
causing the synth overtones at no charge they overhauled the guitar
completely changing out all the electronics and tried to stick me with a
huge bill. When I requested my old parts to be returned with my guitar they
said they had already thrown them all away. Got my guitar back last
wednesday from them and they drilled into the wood to install some of the
cheapest, ugly black pickup rings and the guitar plays worse than some of
the $100.00 crooked neck wall hangers at the local pawn shop. They have
filed almost all of the frets away during their setup. Anybody ever had any
of these problems? Any suggestions on what I should do? I already have
initiated a chargeback on my visa but I have a useless guitar now that at
least played well before all this. Any input would be appreciated. BEWARE OF
GODIN!

How badly was it hosed before you sent it to them? Did you send it to La
Patrie? What did you tell them to do?

I know and experienced nothing but excellence from Godin. Something about
your tale is fishy.

First, you should realize that your problem is with the *dealer*, not with
*Godin*, since the dealer did the work, not Godin.

Second, you should contact Godin.

Third, you should contact the management of the dealer with your complaints.

The guitar was in good condition aside from a weird overtone problem in the
synth unit. The local dealer took three shakes at it charging me each time
and they couldn't get it right (They were Cluless). I did call Godin after
that and was told they would take care of it if I shipped it in at my
expense. I have no clue what La patrie is I returned it to the factory in
New Hampshire where they asked me to send it. And your right something about
my tale is fishy....$1799.00 for a guitar with that kind of support. The
replacement parts they used on my guitar look very "cheaply" made in
comparison to it's original parts. They replaced the switches even and there
was nothing wrong with them. And why would they throw away my old hardware?
I have four Godin's all different models. I have never had problems out of
the other three and this is my first experience dealing with them on a
repair.

"good" condition....like "good" condition on ebay?

did it still have the original hunbuckers? how old was it?

And I do think most Godin owners know of LaPatrie, even if you sent it to
Berlin...

No good condition as in no major flaws and everything worked except for the
aforementioned problem. It was equipped with original humbuckers which were
replaced and it was 2 1/2 years old.

I don't know of Lapatrie and I had no entensive knowledge of Godin aside
from the fact that they make the best tracking synth guitar on the market.
That is until you have a problem with one of their instruments. It seems you
are trying to place the blame on me. I own over 30 instruments from various
manufacturers and have rarely dealt with service or repair on any of them
but the experiences I have had with other manufacturers when repair was
necessary has been pleasant. The melee I just went through with Godin and
their Dealer was not pleasant by any means. They have obviously changed
their operations.

Just checking...all too often here the story told by the aggrived party is
not too accurate. This one still doesn't make sense...why replace the
buckers for a synth problem? That would be the piezo pickup (which is built
into the bridge) or the interface board.

I'd write Robert Godin. His company does things right.

The Lasido (Godin) factories are in Quebec (la Patrie is the home base) and
Berlin, New Hampshire. Godin guitar components are built in La Patrie PQ,
and assembled in Berlin NH.

Except that you indicate that you have only dealt with the dealer for this
matter, not with Godin.

> It seems you are trying to place the blame on me.

No, I am pointing out that you have likely placed blame on the wrong party.
If the service was not performed in La Patrie or Berlin at the Godin
facility, it was done (and botched, from the sounds of it) by the dealer,
not by Godin.

Well, you just said that you don't know of La Patrie, and inferred that the
service was performed at the dealer. Consequently, you don't actually have
any information on Godin's operations or policies.

If this is not the case, please clarify.

And if you are unhappy with the results or your customer experience, contact
Robert Godin, the owner of the company.

"I SHIPPED THE GUITAR TO GODIN AFTER THE DEALER WORKED ON IT THREE SEPERATE
TIMES." It was still in great shape when I sent it to Godin. I had all these
problems dealing with Godin themselves. Perhaps you have been luckier. I've
called...e-mailed....I am content to get my money back, and put the guitar
away until I can find another good synth guitar. It's not worth the trouble.
I don't think writing them will make it any better. They can't undo the
damage done to the guitar.

Thanks

Fuck it, look it up on the web if you're just going to be an ass. The oz
joke sucked the first time you posted it, much less the third.

There is no way we''re getting all the story here...

So let's hear more...who screwed with the buckers? why? they have nothing
to do with the synth circuits.

No need to resort to obscenities here I was just making humor of the
difficulty to reach an intelligent lifeform at Godin. I didnt know I posted
it three times...damn thing wouldnt go through I thought. You are 100%
correct the humbuckers have nothing to do with the synth components. Neither
does the acoustic electronics but they were replaced too. I'm still trying
to figure out how adding pickup rings was going to have an effect on the
synth as well. Not to mention filing my frets into almost non existence. I
used to be able to get a real rhythmic strum out of the guitar but now it's
all full of buzz all through the neck. There isnt enough fret left to hold
the strings off the fretboard. Whether you believe me or not I really don't
care. Don't cuss me for no reason.

Oh and the Volume and Tone pots that they installed that you need a pair of
channel locks to turn didn't have anything to do with the synth either. Same
with the five way switch....etc....

No, he is a real person, and actually runs his business.

Probably your best bet is registered mail, to Robert Godin. Get the
physical office address from the LaSiDo / Godin website.

you really have to wonder what is up with the op....sends the guitar to
Berlin, NH, to repair a synth issue. IF, and that's a big IF, that's all he
requested they address, someone there screwed up incredibly badly since op
reports bad fret filing, replacing of all electronics and not setting the
guitar up. My experience with godin is very very good setups from the
factory, nice finish, no screwups at all.

Overtightening knobs? Replacing the acoustic electronics? Replacing
humbuckers and installing rings for no good reason? We're simply not
gettting the whole story, or Godin did the biggest tech screwup imaginable,
a job no one at godin would condone.

For a synth problem, the only things anyone would replace would be the
pickups (piezo bridge pickups feed the acoustic electronics and the synth
interface) and the interface itself. I used to own the version without the
synth interface (ick, synth guitar). Fantastic guitar, two output jacks so
you can run the acoustic pups on one channel and the humbuckers on the
other, or blended on one channel, three band EQ on the acoustic, coil
splitting on the two humbuckers, incredibly versatile for real guitar
sounds. for op to condemn the company is crap. I'll bet he hosed it first,
the local shop furthered the screw job, and he didn't make his needs clear
to godin.

When I contacted Godin about a problem with my LGXT - synth output (it became
intermittent) they told me that any quality guitar tech could fix it. They
did not have any "authorized" service centers. My guitar/amp tech fixed it
up quickly. I got Godin's e-mail address right off the site, and they
responded quickly.

If what this guy says is true, I feel bad for him, but, my experience with
Godin has been the opposite.
