Has anyone out there ever owned a Traynor tube amp?
Do you know of any famous Tranor amp owners?
Please reply to this group.

P.S.: For the record, I've owned a Traynor Mark 3 for 11 years. What a loud
amp!

Geddy Lee's first amp was a Traynor. His circle of friends in Toronto
(including Alex Lifeson) were always borrowing it for gigs.

most recent one is probably Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar, at a
clinic he said he used one for a long time before it finally caught on
fire due to the amount of dust that had built up over the years.

Although I am not famous, I have a great Traynor Guitar Mate Reverb Amp. I had
it retubed by Kendrick in Austin, TX a few years back, and it drew complements
on the great sound. Not very loud, but the sound is great.

You can see a picture of the amp on my site under the "Guitar Collection".

Good Luck...

I've used and owned more traynor amps than i care to rember over the past
25 years. the tube amps are great..hand wired....the only transister
traynor amp that i've played and liked was a Mono bloc. My favorite was the
gutar mate...single 12 one chaned around 30watts. If you can find one get
it. I do not have one at present but am considering buying back an old bass
head...the one with the range expanders..the chicken beak knobs...and
running it through a four 10 cabinet for guitar....such a sweet sound. they
are the best amp made in Canada that I've played, and i've played a
lot...garnet..GBX...etc. any famous people....any canadian Group from 1965
to 1980.....April Wine for one....

I have a Traynor MKIII. Very cool . 100 watts EL34. The tremolo on
this amp is killer. The best part about this amp is I bought it at a
garage sale for 70 dollars. Ah those fablous '70s

Yorkville now owns the rights to Traynor and are producing small solid state
practice amps under the Traynor name although they are suppose to be
launching an all tube 40W combo that bears the name Traynor. But I think
the Overbuilt hand wired days are gone.

I've got a Traynor solid-state practice amp by Yorkville. Bought it
last December. I can't think of the model number right now (and am too
lazy to look it up since I'm not at home), but it's the 20W amp they're
currently selling (it's on their site). Awesome little amp for the money
($165 Cdn). I looked at Traynor amps, Marshall, Fender, and Peavey and
went with the Traynor namely for features. I found for a small practice
amp, the Marshall had the best sound, but the Traynor the best features
(and second best on sound). The Marshall was pricier and didn't offer
instant channel switching. The Traynor offered two channels, and pedal
switching (plus pedal switching for the chorus -- though sometimes I wish
my amp had reverb instead). Don't let the marketting guys fool you
though, Traynor amps aren't made in Canada any more -- they're outsourced
to Korea.

Bottom line, their solid-state stuff makes great practice amps.
Amazing bang for the buck! All of my guitar playing friends who have
played for years say this amp's better than their first amps.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't think of taking it on stage - it's a practice
amp and nothing more.

As far as Traynor tube stuff goes.. Years ago at my old high school,
they had a Traynor bass amp and guitar amp each which took a pounding and
still sounded great. The guitar amp eventually got unreliable though
(tubes needed some attention but the music teacher replaced the whole amp
with a newer Yorkville).

I'm done babbling on now...

Domenic Troiano used Traynors for years and years, thru the Mandala ,
Bush (his band in the `70s not the band today with the same name), James
Gang and Guess Who days, as well as his solo stuff.
I never saw him live but my Brother saw him many many times, and always
said he never quite got his Tone captured on record....Though I like
his recorded tone,

Whatever has happened to him??

Also Lennon and Clapton used Traynor amps at the "Live peace in Toronto
`69" concert.....

he's still active in Toronto, albeit in a different capacity - I
believe that he started doing music for television and films in the
1980s, he did the music for the CBS series "Night Heat".

He was also in the news a few years ago regarding a lawsuit with the
band currently calling themselves Bush, as he owns the rights to that
name (Gavin & Co. for a time had to call their band Bush X in Canada),
they finally settled out of court. BTW, the Troiano Bush album has just
been issued on CD.

Troiano had a number of albums out on Capitol (including FRET FEVER
and THE JOKE'S ON ME), out of print for some time.

and one other thing - according to Burton Cummings' liner notes on
the Guess Who's TRACK RECORD compilation, when Dominic joined the band
he warned them up front that he came with "the two record curse" - any
band he was involved with lasted two albums before they split up. Sure
enough, after FLAVOURS and POWER IN THE MUSIC they were gone....
