Been seeing these full page ads in Guitar Player featuring this geeky
looking guy who calls himself "Maestro Alex Gregory". So, I finally
start to get a little curious and go check out his website
(www.pentasystem.com).

WOW. What an egotistical wacko. As near as I can tell, the
"Maestro" is a frustrated musician wannabe who has released a couple
of self produced albums that went nowhere and has been involved in
several failed business deals.

Despite the fact that the 7 string guitar dates back to the 1930's --
long before "The Maestro" was born -- he somehow managed to obtain a
couple of patents and has now proclaimed himself "the sole and true
inventor of the 7 string guitar".

And this is a situation any different than with what Buzzed & Fetid claims
to have "invented"? I think you're trying to piss over your own head.

ah, yes, the Maestro. The man who sent a picture of him relieving
himself on the graves of Yngwie and Steve Vai to all the guitar mags in
promoting one of his albums!

The Maestro is the best news Yngwie has ever had, after all Maestro
is such an egotistical a*****e he makes Mr. Malmsteen and The Great Kat
look like the paragons of humility. :)

did you also notice that he's now promoting five-string guitars of
his own design, and is threatening to sue anyone who even dares to copy
his "innovation"? Man, this looks like a good opportunity for Keith
Richards to make some pocket change :)

OK..I went to the guys site. He looks like an old alcoholic, speed
junkie. I checked out some of the clips, but skipped Albert Lee's playing.
There were some real rotton notes, some flashy stuff too, but it was all
anti climatic.

On his website he claims that Fender made an "Alex Gregory Signature"
model 7 string back in '88 or '89. Can this possibly be true? How
does a nobody get a deal with Fender?

Yes Fender did make a 7-string 'Alex Gregory' model for awhile, but it
was only sold in England IIRC. He also had Roger Giffin make him several
custom guitars.....the 7-string guitar was first popularised in jazz by
George Van Eps, who had Epiphone building them for him back in the 1930s
; they were popular in eastern europe for a hundred years before
that...also there are the 7-string Hawaiian Steel guitars.........
