Gibson LP Smartwood Exotic good?

A local guitar store has a Gibson Les Paul Smartwood Exotic for about $500.
Are these as good as standard Les Pauls? They have Mahogany backs with
Taperyva, Guasa, Cancharana, Peroba, or Ambay Guasa (hence the word Exotic)
tops, and have Curupay fingerboards. They are genuine Gibson, which makes
me think that they would be good, but that weird wood scares me off a
little. As for my style of music, I need a warm, clear tone (not using
distortion). Any opinions?

i dont know about the guitar, but why dont you just go into the sho pand ask

I played some and liked them. Not the same as standard Les Pauls, just a bit

try the guitar out at your store. :)

Yes, I forgot to mention that--it is used. I haven't actually seen it yet,
just had a phone conversation with the store owner about it--I'm hoping to go
over there soon to check it out (just need to work it around my busy work
schedule). Just curious, when you say not quite as fat sounding, here's maybe
a stupid question. :)
Do you think I would get a more Les Paul-like fat, warm sound using a copy
(like Epiphone of DeArmond) made out of mahagony, or a real Gibson Les Paul
made out of that exotic wood? Hmmm... If anyone else wants to jump in with an
answer, you're more than welcome!
