This is the gal that played for Michael Jackson?

OK song...I'd have ditched one chorus and added a good outro solo, but that's just me.

How about an all-Aussie-chick band, with her and Tal Wilkenfeld?

On drums we'd have...??

Drums?!?!?! Who gives a rip?!?!? With Orianthi and Tal on the front line,
you could put Ginger Baker, Vinnie Paul AND Alex Van Halen side by side and
they'd never even be noticed!!

Honestly, other than the guitar riffs, she sounds exactly like every
other made up pop star. That song could be the latest from Avril
Lavigne or Hilary Duff or whoever the flavor of the week is. Too bad.

Dunno .. Avril writes many of her songs and claims to have
a lot of artistic freedom over the production and more
or less rocks ... Duff (IMO) is a made for MTV pop star ...

I watched some live stuff this 20 yo girl played and it's above
average guitar playing ... It's a starting point though to have a CD of
original songs and be touring .. shes better than most of us !

What about the old one? TBH she doesn't do much for me, a good technical
player but not a lot of spark. Mia Dyson is pretty good tho.

or sucks, depending on your taste in music.

No, she's a made for Disney channel "actress" (Lizzie McGuire) who also
sells records off the back of her established fan base.
They all do that including most of our local Neghbours "actresses". Some,
like Hannah Montanna/Miley Cyrus are even supposed to be singers on their TV
show. A well established sales idea dating back to the Monkees.

Can't really blame them for making as much as they can from their 15 minutes
of fame. Selena Gomez, (Wizards of Waverly Place) is the latest in a long
line. Hell even Paris Hilton sold a few records to capitalise on her "fame",
since she has no discernable talent of any description.

Sure, and at least she has some musical talent, unlike most of the rest.

Maybe, but a pop song with an actual guitar solo in it and played by a
woman! Fuck eh?

Michael Jackson has a lefty guitarist named Jen Leigh at one time who
was REALLY a great player. She's on some of the recordings, but
although she was an awesome guitarist and looked pretty good, didn't
quite have "the Look" for the stage show.

She seems a bit above that, making a living in music
means getting air play and any talented guitarist have a
problem with that already.. so a popTart song helps.

At least she can play really good guitar. This is quite a change from most
female pop stars, who cant really do much more than strum. Perhaps she will
inspire more girls to really learn how to play, instead of pursuing the
usual singer-songwriter trip.

and I've heard many times that many of Avrils songwriting credits are faked
or overblown or downright untrue.

She's as manufactured as Duff... according to some people. Originally a
country singer, discovered by some "evil manager" and made into the skater
queen.

Jackson also had the venerable Jennifer Batten on lead guitar for awhile, i
believe, originally hired because she could play the VanHalen Beat IT solo
note for note. I met her one time, nice person, amazing two hand tapper.
she said women were not in to her music at all.. because she doesnt sing.

Nice technical ability on the solo, but it really don't do much for
me. I played 100mph when I was that age too, but thankfully grew out
of it. The whole tapping thing is generally poo-poo'd...unless yer in

loss with that girl... so young..

Ha! Classic example of chick singer pop... they take the person LEAST
responsible for any of the music, arranging, writing, creation, or
anything... and put them on the cover.

She probably spend more time in the photo studio for the cover than the
recording studio.

Why would any musician worth their salt buy anything like this?

Just curious... I know you can play your ass off and have been around the
block ten million times. I'm mistified that you'd own this CD. Did you buy
it?

I didn't buy it, but, I played for a 'pop tart' like that, and
considered it 'research'.. Honestly, I have a lot of stuff like that -
Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Hillary Duff, The Veronicas, Dianna DeGarmo...

Soul-less pop is good in small doses (though, I really like Clarksons'
CD's)

I won't even TALK about the Paris Hilton CD I have :)

Was she the one who died from lung cancer? I thought it was Vicki
Blue.

I can't wait for the movie.

It was her... Vicki is still alive and well (she's the one that did the
other Runaway's movie)

According to Cherie, it's coming out March 10th...

Could be awesome!

Vicki also did a cameo in Spinal Tap, no? One of the groupie scenes
in the hotel room?

That scene was cut - it's on the DVD in the deleted scenes... I think it
was her and Cherie in there...

Speaking of which - I just got 'The Return of ST' from Netflix... It's a
really good concert... Guests' tone is a little weird....

Karen Carpenter was both a female drummer and a talented singer with an
excellent voice.

Jeez..what faint praise is that?

Karen Carpenter was a good drummer with an unbelievable voice. It was
like listening to treacle running down the side of a pudding.

And I mean that in a good way.
