Was thinking of checking one out locally tonight, but we here (LI NY)
are in the midst of a heavy snowstorm...up to 18" or more coming.
I am curious, have any of you ever owned or played one. It sounds like
a lighter version of an LP, which is a good thing for me. I am
generally an SG guy, so I'm wondering how it compares to an SG AND
specifically...will it have the problem of the headstock being heavier
than the body which a lot of SG's have...in other words the dreaded
neck dive? I have a feeling I will like this guitar. I may try to see
it Monday.
Thanks.

Offering a guess, no more. The neck dive problem on the SG is caused be the
strap button being located on the heel, putting the balance fulcrum too far
back. On The Paul the neck button is located well forwards of the heel on
the upper bout - like an LP. I would bet money that it won't have a neck
dive problem even if the body is light weight

I have it... LOVE it...

Plays great... fixes the things I don't like about my other two LP's -
Heavy, and thick... And it goes on record as probably being one of the
only guitars I've ever bought that I didn't replace the stock pickups...

I'm NOT an SG guy - them, and Teles - are my least favorite guitars...
This is like a Les Paul, and does not suffer from any headstock
heaviness.

It's a snowstorm here in Maryland as well..

Cool, I think I will go look at it in a few days. it's a black one, I
was hoping to find a red one (just missed one on EBay). I have a
feeling it just is going to be a great guitar for me.
My son's girlfriend just got here from Maryland late last night...she
was very lucky she just missed the big snow or she would not have
gotten out of there.
Thanks.

Not all SG's have the problem, but most do. I currently only have my
Robot SG, and it does not. The robot tuners, while big, are lighter
than standard SG tuners (not by much) but that could have something to
do with it. I've had some over the years that I got rid of for that
reason alone, and others that had it but not too bad.
I would guess the same as you.

From what I've heard on the news, you guys in the western part of the
state got it easy compared with the DC area.

Mine is the Red one - I think from '97??? Paid $400 WITH a headstock
repair. Honestly, my logic is, if it was repaired well and plays, I
don't care... I'm not a collector..

If I find you an SG... Perhaps we can trade????? :)

I just read your post again.. It's so funny - I'm embroiled in a dispute
with my friend who lives in Seaford - He's been 'holding onto my' '78
Gibson SG since 1990 - and now is reluctant to have me drive to LI and
pick it up (his daughter likes playing it :)

SG's and Long Island... what's the connection :)

We have 20 inches of snow here. No snow blower. Fortunately my
daughter and her boyfriend are living with me temporarily. I can use
all the help I can get!!

Amazing that we in New England are getting spared this time for
once...relatively speaking. We only got about a foot, and it was
light as all hell. Nice not to have to wreck my back for a change.

You're kidding, right? I'd be on his doorstep in a second and
wouldn't leave until I collected.

Same thing happened a few years back, when a "buddy" of mine decided
to hold onto my vintage MXR Dist+. I just showed up, walked in, sat
down and told him if he wanted me to leave he'd better fork it over.
He managed to "find" it pretty quickly. His wife was getting pretty
nervous with all the awkward silence & staring ;-)

They've since divorced and he now lives down the street from
me...walks up once every few months to say hi. He doesn't seem all
that scarred.

Not kidding at all.. When I moved out of NYC, I gave him that and my
Ibanez Destroyer II... Lots of things happened between then and now,
and I honestly forgot where those two guitars ended up... One day out
of the blue, he finds me online, and he makes mention of the SG - I had
totally forgotten about the Destroyer II (which I had Rick Neilson play
once!!!....)

His daughter is 15 or 16, and likes somebody that plays SG's - so, she's
'attached to it'...

I've asked him flat out for it.. and he's refused... which pisses me
off...

The odd thing is... this year.. he asked me to go to NYC to do some gigs
with him. I can't believe he doesn't expect me to come TAKE the guitar
:)

I've sent the daughter pictures of Luna guitars, and Hanna Montana
guitars... IN PINK!!!! She's not interested...

It's a NICE SG... 1978 Standard... typical Red...

One day... one day :)

No snow blower for me. Luckily the snow was of the very light variety.
Now I'm waiting for the plows to come by and I'll have 4'-5' high to
get the cars out again.
