I have one of the first Dunlop Crybaby pedals after they started
putting the Dunlop name on them. This is the first model BEFORE they
had the a/d adapter plug, so battery only. Does anyone know an approx.
year for this (early 80's I guess)...or any other info on the history
and when they added the a/c plug? Thanks.

As far as I know . . . the original Crybaby pedals manufactured after
Jim Dunlop bought the brand from Thomas Organ in 1981 were labeled
GCB95. Does your's have a model number on it?

Aren't ALL Basic CryBabys GCB95's?? I know I've had 2 or 3 (with adapter
plugs) that were GCB95's.

I have a Zakk Wylde model now... LOVE it!

There are at least a dozen "different" models currently in
production. The real old Vox models had an image of Clyde McCoy
printed on the bottom of the pedal. Almost all of the original Vox
and Cry Baby wahs were manufacture in Italy. The Fasel models are
wired for true bypass. Most, if not all, of the current models use a
single-pole switch that adds impedence to the circuit and affects the
pedal's tone.

Yes, it is marked GCB-95. I believe that they got this number as soon
as Dunlop started putting their name on them. It also says "Original
Crybaby" on the front label. I believe they were only made without the
a/c adapter for a short time. I've had original Thomas Organ wahs and
this sounds similar to me, considerably better than the new ones. Of
course I could be imagining things too, I've been known to do that
occassionally.

I had the Dimebag Crybaby in the past, it was good. It had a knob for
everything, so lots of possible tweaks. In the end I was tweaking to
much and playing too little. I decided a wah should be a simple
affair. The Zakk pedal looks more to the point in that regard.

I'm not talking about all the different models.. I mean.. Can't you,
today, go to Amazon.com and buy a GCB-95?? That number is pretty much
what they use for their wah model. I know there's the GCB-95Q, and a Zakk
Wylde one (that I have now) and a bunch more.

So - I guess what I was asking was - wouldn't a serial number help more
to date it since they all say the equivalent of 'Fender Stratocaster'.

I had a 95 that I modded to the gills. True bypass, Switchcraft jacks,
Hot Potz pot, replaced all the wires with oxygen-free wires... Traded it
away..

It's extremely aggressive. I have it first in my chain - always before
Distortion. When you kick it on.. It's heaven man... Got it for $20 from
a store that was going out of business.

I was just listening to some clips, I really like it. For $20 I'd buy
as many as I can get my hands on. For $90 I can wait awhile, but when
I see one at a reasonable price it will be mine.

The basic circuit is similar on all Dunlop wahs AFAIK. The
differences are mainly in the tweaks and components used. I've never
seen a list of Dunlop Cry Baby serial numbers. If you run across one,
I'd be interested in seeing a website addy posted. Modded is a mild
discription. Looks like another story about the one that got away.

I'll tell you one thing - Vox wah pedals are much nicer ;)

Well I like the chrome on 'em, but I've owned many models of both. I
find there are good and bad in both brands. They did start out the
same brand though.
