Hi all,
Does anyone out there know the fingerpicking pattern to
Kathy's Song by Paul Simon? I've tried figuring what I can
from the chopro at Nevada already. The chords are close,
give or take a couple, but what I'm really after is a tabbed
version, or even just the picking pattern. Anybody?
Thanks much,
-Dave

I just use a Travis pattern (my own version, which I don't think matches
the "standard" pattern), and that works fairly well. The only parts
I vary from the pattern are for the intro, and some "walks" between
chords .... G to C, C to Bm, etc ...

It's not too difficult, but I haven't got time to do a tab. Basically, the
main chord pattern for the 'tricky' bit between verses is a C with a G bass
note, which is then slid two frets up. Almost any picking pattern will
sound like the original, provided you keep up an alternating bass and
pick out occasional melody notes. The rest of the verse is based round Am with
a slightly walking bass note, (walk it around till it sounds like the
original), and standard chords that you probably know already.

A capo on the fourth fret will avoid damage due to extreme low frequency
noise when singing.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

I use a Travis picking version, I have the tab for the song and its exactly
like the original from Sound of Silence. If there's a demand I will tab it up,
well most of it, and post it. Here's the main pattern. While I'm on the
subject of Simon and Garfunkel has anyone worked out the beginning of
'The Dangling Conversation' or maybe even 'Poem on the Underground Wall'?

I think the beginning of Dangling Conversation as played by Paul Simon
goes like this:

B:|---------------------------------3------|
G:|-------------------------------------0--|
D:|--------0---------0--------0------------|
A:|-----3---------3--------3---------------|
E:|-3---------3---------3------------------|

Sorry for my mistake!
Of course this was the beginning of "Flowers never bend with the Rainfall"
"Dangling Conversation" is much more complicated. I mixed it up.
