I was told that Live is a band of White Supremist Neo-Nazis... that
their song "White Discussion" off of Throwing Copper was meant to be
anti-black, and there were several anti-Jewish lines in their new Secret
Garden disk.
Of course my reaction to that was "Really? I'm not sure whether I
believe that..."
Should I believe it? Does anybody know anything about this subject? I
would really like to know
I think you might mean "The Beauty of Gray" There's no song on MJ named
"B&W"

No. White Discussion is about the end of the world I think, and they do
reference Hitler in Top which is off Throwing Copper, but they do it in a
negative way since the song is about leaders who have been corrupted by
their own power and abuse it.
Not to be rude or anything, but there are such things as racists from
York, PA. Also, if I recall, their Mental Jewelry album is quite old,
and people have been know to change... I'm not saying I believe that
they are racist, just that you can't judge a person by the state where
they're from... that's how stereotypes begin.

Sorry, but your friends are tragically misinformed! Much of what Live is
about is to do with equality, peace, interpersonal relations etc. As a
band the lyrics frequently deal with the spiritual, the personal and the
philisophical but rarely the political.
With regards to White, Discussion, the only word in the song which could
possibly relate to race is in the title. Even here I need hardly point
out that race is not the only possible connotation of the word "white". I
can assure you I would *not* listen to racist lyrics.
With regards to *Secret Samadhi* (the name of the new album, which your
friends got wrong - indicative of their knowledge of Live, I would
suggest), I know the lyrics by heart and there's not an anti-Semitic one
to be seen. If I can generalise, the album is about personal spiritual
realisation and taking stock.
So, Micah, feel free to enjoy Lakini's Juice without any ignorance
smearing your pleasure. I highly recommend, however, that anyone who
still has doubts picks up a copy of Secret Samadhi. Even if you don't buy
it, the lyrics are printed on the insert so you can judge for yourself.

Now come on... now we're back to the stereotypes! Do you think that
it's only possible for white male Americans to be racists?!? NO! There
are black racists (Farakkhan, or however you spell his name), there are
Jewish racists (Dice Clay, for instance), there are racists of every
denomination you can think... no... if you wish to prove that Ed is not
a racist, I suggest you use a more sound argument than "he likes
Buddhism".
After hearing all the information from you guys on the newsgroups, I now
tend to doubt that Live is outwardly racist. Thanks for setting me
straight, all.
Incidentally, I can tell you all who is racist: Tommy Hilfiger, who
told Oprah something on the lines of "If I knew so many niggers and
chinamen were going to wear my clothing, I wouldn't have made it so
nice."

now i agree with the whole "don't judge a [erspn by his home state"
arguement, but the buddhism reference holds water...buddhism is a religion
that was meant to transcend the classifications of this world, so a)
Racists wouldn't be drawn to buddhism in the first place, and b) buddhists
wouldn't be likely to judge a person on the basis of their race.
It's not called a stereotype, it's called an obsevation backed by facts.
And by the by, i've boycotted Tommy Hilfiger clothes all my life...it's
called the "why waste so much money on overpriced prep clothes just so i
can look like every other media-culture brainwashed sheep that does the
same" boycott...
WHAT?!?

That's fine. I didn't say I believed it.

No shit, Sherlock. Neither myself nor my friends are the types to
stereotype people. That's why it surprised me when I heard it from
them. So if you please, let's keep the discussion to Live, and not
personal attacks on my friends (who, incidentally, don't really care
about your opinion of them anyway).

Do you think it's easier or harder to hate blacks than other minority
groups?
I don't know whether you saw my post a few days ago, but I've already
heard enough opinions to believe that Live is not a rascist group.
HA, HA, HA
Yeah, and if you substitute all the letters for one or more other
letters, you get:-
"A complete load of dribbly old wank"
These things don't happen by accident - this was obviously
a cunning marketing ploy...

I am constantly amazed by the shit some
people put on the World Wide Web.
"Complete No Talents With a Record Deal" has the letters "L," "I" and
"E" in it.
they must have done that on purpose

On a totally unrelated not, how do you pronounce Live: As in 'in
concert' or as in being alive?

And just to propagate this thread, evil backwards would be the oposite
of evil, which is good. Plus I would like to hear the original
argument for them being racist. Listening to the new album, It seems
(IMHO) that these guys are more for accepting everyone.
comments?

They're both pronounced the same boyo...
What you meant to say was, live as in "I live in Belfast"
or live as in "in concert". It's as in "in concert" anyways..

im from alabama. im not racist. i dont eat dirt either. i dont wear
overalls and straw hats. but anyhoo, you cant say that because of the state
that someone comes from they are not racist. no matter where you go there
will always be a few people like that, unfortunately. and why do you guys
think live are racist?

When you learn how to form a sentence that actually makes
sense, feel free to post that remark again, so we might all
be able to understand. Remember to hit the CAPS key before
your next post, too...

Why don't you stay on the topic.

I see you found the CAPS key. Right then, we were discussing
+Live+ being racists and you said, and I quote, "AND THERE ARE
ONE UP ON YOU LOSER". So, let me see now. Would you consdier
this to be *on* topic? Surely only a fool (or an American)
would think that this gibberish had anything even remotely
to do with whether or not +Live+ are racists.
