Hellbound Train - Savoy Brown
- written by Kim Simmonds and Andy Silvester
- on album Hellbound Train (1972)
Am
Hellbound train, I'm on its track
Too late now to turn my back
Conductor comin', ticket in his hand
Come to claim his own, take me to his land
(between verses - C, Am, C, Am)
note: while guitar and organ go to C, bass plays F
Am
Hellbound train, I been so wrong
Too late now, I'm movin' on
Conductor standin'...what's in his hand?
Got to get aboard, take me to his land
Chorus:
F Am
I'm goin' down the road on the hellbound train
F Am
Take a long look, baby, cause you won't see me again
F Am
Take a last look baby, ain't it so, I'm gone
F
G Am
Cause I'm goin' down the road on the hell...the hellbound train
Am
Hellbound train, drivin' slow
To run down to the hell below
Conductor, please, won't you lend a hand?
Got to get aboard, take me to your land
Am
Yes, I know. I been so wrong
Too late now, I'm movin' on
Hellbound train, I'm on it's track
Movin' down, I can't look back
Chorus...
organ break...
Chorus...
jam on...
the G should be over "hell", and the Am is over "train".
Yo, Dan, that was me! I got around to playing it too...here's a couple
other ideas I had - trying to cop the guitar part (not too prominent in
the mix) during the long Am verses. For the verses, I stay close to the
Am or C finger positions but play these implied chords mostly on two
strings - my index finger never leaves the first fret of the B string.
(h)=hammer on to sound these (po)=pull off to sound these
G Am C D C Am
e-------------------------(po)------------------
B------(h)---1---------3---1---1----------------
G--0----2----0---------2---0---2----------------
D--0----2----2-----------------2----------------
A------------3-----------------0----------------
E-----------------------------------------------
Hellbound train, I'm on its track
for the C to Am part between verses, I play
C D C D C Am Am
e--0---------------------------------------------
B--1------3----1----3----1----1----1-------------
G--0------2----0----2----0----2----2-------------
D--2--------------------------2----2-------------
A--3--------------------------0----0-------------
E------------------------------------------------
'course the bass really makes Savoy Brown's version cool! Always glad
to promote more interest in their music. Thanks
