I've been looking all over the web for a tab or chords for "Brother John" by
Big Head Todd and the Monsters. So far, nada... Post here or point me in the
right direction, please!
Also, I'm relatively new to this picking up songs thing. They are playing a
12 string in the song, right? Or, am I still to musically dense to tell the
difference?
Cheers,
Darin.

I remembered it was a pretty simple little number, so I just played the
album and wrote this out. It doesn't sound like a 12-string to me, but
it is a busy strumming pattern. See how this sounds to you.

Brother John - Big Head Todd & the Monsters
- on album Sister Sweetly (1993)
- written by Todd Park Mohr

Almost the entire song is the same strumming sequence:
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 / 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 / Repeat
G C C* C
I don't know the correct name of the chord indicated by C*, but it's
played by using the pinkie at the third fret of the B string to add
a D note to the C chord, thus [x 3 2 0 3 0]
I've also tried a D chord istead of C*, but it doesn't quite ring true
Whatever, that's whole song, until just before the end, where I've
noted the other chords
Turn around for somethin' better
Children, give up, don't you ever
Remember that the devil's clever
Mmmmm-hmmmmmm
Brother John, where are you, why are you sleepin'?
Brother John, why are you, where are you sleepin'?
Take the light into your room
Cast a candle on your gloom (doom?)
Your master, he is coming home soon
Mmmmm-hmmmmmm
Brother John, how are you, why are you sleepin'?
Brother John, where are you, why are you sleepin'?
Em C G
May your awakening be near
Em C D** C G
Heaven could be anyplace...why not here? Why not here? Why not here?
(Return to chord pattern)
Why not here?
Brother John, how are you, how are you sleepin'? (three times)
Brother John, how are you, why are you sleepin'?
** I'm not happy with a D chord here, but I'm not sure what to play
instead;
I've tried variations of D, but nothing quite clicks
