Need Martin officialdo, Two questions. First a statement, Martin has
no clue as to when they start or end a certain features. I mean in
general terms, not to the serial number but just what friggin year. I
am not a novice, and I own several Martins and other guitars.
Question # 1. I have a 1945 00-18 (love the neck) closest I can come
is it is a shallow or Modifided V shape. When did Martin stop putting
the neck shapes on the 00 and 000-18's of the 40's and 50's. I want to
buy another one to play gigs with and keep my 45 at home but people
who sell 50's and 40's Martins have no clue whether the neck is a V in
shape or not. If I knew the year it ended then I could buy
comfortably. Martin is CLUELESS they say Martin discontinued the
shallow V in the late 30's I've played a 46 that had the same shape so
I asume that this is a stock feature of the time.

Question, I have a friend that picked up a beat up Martin 00-18 and
it's maybe a 70's or 80's I guess but the back of the neck right where
the peghead starts there is a nub kind of like to keep your thumb from
sliding up the back of the headstock,It is not diamond shape like my
1945. but it sticks out and has a curving recess to its shape
perpindicular to the length of the neck. The serial and model numbers
are covered by a 9V battery someone added on the neck block and my
friend doesn't want to remove it and glue it back just to get a serial
number, what years did Martin put this weird nub on their guitars
? this is the first one I've seen on a Martin.

Ever since Mike Longworth died so di the history of Martin Guitars,
they just don't have any clue. I have Mikes first book but can't find
it. please feel free to email me also at spankey at ece dot unm dot edu
