It's like a very low tone that changes as I rock the pedal.
Wah + distortion (DM4, TS-9, ToneBone, whatever) + One Spot = hum
Wah + distortion (DM4, TS-9, ToneBone, whatever) + 9-volt battery = no hum
Wah + no distortion (clean guitar) + 9-volt battery = no hum
Wah + no distortion (clean guitar) + OneSpot = hum
I have 4 old Vox wahs: 2 CryBaby, 2 King Wahs.
Some have true bypass, some don't.
This occurs despite which wah I'm using.
Mike
I googled One Spot, and the first thing that caught my eye was a link to
a site that had the following warning:
NOTE: The 1SPOT cannot be used to power multiple LINE 6 ToneCore Pedals
due to inadequate power supply filtering in the pedals. A 1SPOT can be
used with one Tone Core Pedal with only a minimal amount of noise. More
than 1 Tone Core pedal on a daisy chain causes too much noise for
practical use.
http://www.visualsound.net/1spot.htm
Now even though we're not talking about Line 6 pedals here, that
statement to me says that it's a crappy wallwart. Inadequate power
supply filtering leads to noise, and a wah pedal will make noise
noticeable because it changes the tonal character as you sweep the wah.
I use the Dunlop DC Brick for lots of my pedals including wahs:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DCBrick/
In fact I was fiddling with a wah plugged into the Brick yesterday with
my amp on a high-gain setting and I didn't notice excessive noise at
all.
I wouldn't be so hard on One Spot... Reminds me of a situation I have
with my Godlyke PS and all of my Zoom pedals.
Alone... quiet as can be... Add ONE Boss pedal.... Weirdo digital noise.
Of course they blame Zoom, and I agree... The Zoom is all plastic, and
probably doesn't handle grounding correctly. ALL other pedals have metal
Switchcraft jacks that do their job!
There might be a *little* that One-Spot/Godlyke could do, but, those
things are tranformerless/noiseless GOLD to me!
Rich, this good sleuthing work and great info.
But I think the OP may just have a bad 1-Spot, or a different problem.
I typically use a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power II, but I also have a 1-
Spot.
My 1-Spot has never introduced noise when used with either my Line 6
DL-4 or my MM-4, nor does it introduce noise with my wah.
I wonder if perhaps the OP's wah has a bad ground or something on the
power jack.

Sure, lots of things are possible. I just posted that because it raised
a flag with me.
The OP does say that he used the OneSpot with several wahs and had the
same issue with each one.
It's possible that his OneSpot is bad, also possible that he has a
ground issue with his amp and that using a power supply rather than a
battery with his wah leads to ground loop problems.

Ah, touché. I hadn't noticed that.

Also true.
The good thing about Visual Sound is that they stand by their
products. If the 1-Spot is bad, they will make it right. I had a
Jekyll and Hyde that stopped working (I forget how), and Bob Weil (the
owner) not only took care of it, but talked to me on the phone for
about 30 minutes about different pedal-related stuff. Good guy. Good
company. Good products.

Just to clarify.....the problem occurs:
Regardless of which amp I'm using
Regardless of which guitar I'm using
Regardless of which wah I'm using
I first noticed this hum at rehearsal.....different amp....different locale.
I was hoping that the problem stemmed from either of those 2 elements.
But the problem was still there when I plugged into my own amp in my own
home.

Guitar + OneSpot (powering all devices) + Line6 Roto Machine = Hum
Guitar + OneSpot (powering all devices except wah.....9-volt battery in wah)
+ Roto Machine = No hum
Guitar + OneSpot (powering all devices) - Roto Machine = No hum
So....it's a weird combo of the One Spot powering the wah, with the Roto
Machine in the chain....

I think I may have it now.
I know that the Line 6 Echo Park requires a special 9.7v adaptor, and
will hum like mad with a regular 9v. Check to see that the Roto
Machine isn't needing 9.7v or something like that.
Fingers crossed,

"Power Requirements
- Single 9-Volt Battery, or
- Line 6 DC-1 9-Volt Power Supply"
Yet --
http://www.zzounds.com/item--LINDC1
"Line 6 DC1 *9.6VDC* regulated power supply."
In fact, every site I've been to lists the DC-1 as a 9.6-V supply.
You may be onto something.
I use a Pedal Snake in my setup and have a requirement to feed my pedal
board with both 9V and 12V - I use a dual isolated P-Line and a 1-Spot
to feed all my 9V pedals including my three Moog ones, which require
polarity inverters. But I use the OEM 12V wart to supply my TC Nova
pedal on the second line. You could do/try something similar.
http://www.pedalsnake.com/page.php?id=63
Or you could get a single 5-pin to 5-pin MIDI cable and a set of dual
isolated P-Line pigtails and just run your power through without using a
whole Snake.
http://www.pedalsnake.com/osCommerce/catalog/index.php?cPath=35
Be careful about choosing the right MIDI cable - they aren't all created
equal - a "standard" MIDI cable only has three pins connected; one that
will supply MIDI phantom power has all 5 connected, and that's the type
you'd need to use.

I've heard complaints about the 1-Spot before. But I've used one with
both a Boss PW-10 and a Rocktrom wah. Never any problems. Right now my
1-Spot is powering 7 pedals, including the Boss wah, with no noise.
To the OP - have you checked Visual Sound's website? They have a list
of incompatible pedals.

Oops... make that "Rocktron".
