My covers band is doing REM's Crush w/ Eyeliner" and I have tremolo
built into the GT-6 that I'm not happy with.
I don't know if *I'm* nuts or not (steady, steady...), but it SEEMS
that the tremolo begins whenever you strike the strings - IOW, it's
not a steady beat that you jump on a ride, it restarts the beat when
you trigger it by hitting the strings (I used to have a Hohner amp
[???!!!] that had built-in tremolo, and *it* did what I'm saying! A
preset tremolo continued on and on, whether you came in or beat or
not).
IF it had a constant beat that went on and on, the drummer ostensibly,
could listen to that beat and play along with it, but the drummer and
I tried timing it out and saw that the beat started when i played!...
or, of course, I'm nuts/wrong/despised.
Does anyone know how BOSS' tremolo on this unit works and can confirm/
correct my situation?
Now, in looking for possible stomp pedals to create the song's effect,
where do I go?
Perhaps it's not even Tremolo that's being used? Does anyone know what
REM used (or probably used?)?!
Thanks,
aiiiiee
The current issue of Guitar Player (with John Fogerty on the cover)
has reviews of several trems. I think one or two of them have this
function. If you can't find the article, e-mail me.
If I remember right (my daughter has my copy of "Monster" - I haven't
listened to it in a while) the trem on "Crush with Eyeliner" is pretty
choppy. Right? You'll need a pedal that has an adjustable waveform -
most of the better ones have this.
Hope this helps.

No tap tempo (although it could probably be modded) but my Electro
Harmonix 'Wiggler' is the most convincing trem I've heard for covering
this song (one I learnt years ago!). It's valve warmth is hard to beat
