I don't know if this is the case for that pedal, but some DOD pedals
have a subtle change when they moved production from the US to offshore.
In a lot of cases, they simply put a "b" after the model number, which
confused some guys into thinking it was the BASS model!

I bought this pedal after seeing a picture of kim thaiyl's setup from
the badmotorfinger era.. he had his wah wah pedal setup first, before
the DOD FX-10 preamp, which brings me to think that it might just be a
volume pedal; i assume that you'd want the FX-10 as the first pedal in
the chain.. he actually had two FX-10s in a row, the original version.
any thoughts or comments on this?

http://filters.muziq.be/model/dod/fx/fx10 says:
a 1990 DOD brochure about the FX10 Bi-FET Preamp:
The FX10 Bi-FET Preamplifier is designed with the acoustic
instrument in mind. It provides up to 17dB of gain to match the output
from an acoustic transducer with other electric instruments going into
an amplifier.
Think of it as a clean boost. Useful in front of many tube amps to
increase overall gain. But a detriment in front of most SS amps, some
SS effects, and most digital gear.
