The J-Station cannot convert notes into MIDI information. It is merely an
effects type unit, meaning that it operates similarly to your standard
effects stompboxes. You are able to transmit functions such as program
change through MIDI. Best way to hook it up would be through the headphone
output into the mic input on your sound card or through the
S/PDIF output into your soundcard if u have one.

Hi Erik,

What problem are you having? We were just testing the J-Station with the new
Ground Control Pro (programmable MIDI foot controller), so I'm a little up on
it.

One thing, which may be obvious, the J-Station has a switch on the back
associated with the MIDI in which selects between normal MIDI operation or if
you're going to use it with their J-8 foot pedal. If you have this switch in the
wrong position it won't work. Also, the two "unused" pins on the MIDI jack are
connected in the J-Station. So if they connect to something on your PC, there
could be a problem there. Try using cables that have only 3 pins wired, these
are commonly labeled "3-pin active".

If you give me the symptoms, I'll try to help.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your reply. First let me say that I am quite used
to computers but I have not used them very much with MIDI. I bought the J
Station and have no problems with the guitar to J Station and the use of the
effects and amp. simulation. The problem is when I try to connect the J
Station to the PC with the MIDI cables. According to the manual, I should be
able to use the JEdit program with the J Station via the MIDI cables and use
different patches downloaded from the net. When I try to attach the J
Station though the MIDI cables all I get is a "not able to detect J Station"
message. No matter what I do. I do have the switch at the rear of the J
Station in the correct position, (towards the two midi sockets!) and I am
using a MIDI cable that connects to the computer through the joystick port
which goes to two cables with 5 pins in each cable. I attach the MIDI out
from the computer to the MIDI in on the J Station and the MIDI in to the
computer to the out of the J Station. I just cannot get the PC and the J
Station to link up.
I really would appreciate any help you could give. As I said, I can
use the J Station for the musical side of it but it would be good to enjoy
the full use of the J Edit software provided to enhance the power of the J
Station.
I have also downloaded the latest version of J Edit from the Internet (J
Edit 1.2a). I have both the one that came with the unit and the internet
one. Thank you again.....Erik

Erik.. I'm not the 100% tech guy, but I connected my V-AMP to my PC via the
joystick port and using SoundDiver. Your connections seem to be OK PC-out to
MIDI in and vice versa maybe want to try reversing the cables just in case the
cable company or Johnson marked them such as they need to work OUT with OUT and
IN with IN (not very likely but just in case)
Also make sure that in your PC setting/Control Panel/Multimedia, you have a
device programmed in the MIDI folder as MIDI output. If you don't then it won't
recognize your MIDI device...

hope this helps a bit!

Mel,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried reversing the cables, still no joy.
I have checked the Sound and Multimedia file in the Control Panel and the J
Station is listed. I am not exactly sure on that though. Could you be MORE
clear on what exactly should be in that folder to recognise the
device.....Erik

Erik, like I previously said, I'm not too techy but I'll try....

there need to be something programmed as the MIDI OUT device... I suspect your
J_Station is the Midi IN... but something has to be OUT device also. For a
reason I can't explain, I have something like RolandMP40 (I'm at office right
now... so can't give you the exact description...) When I uplaod my V-AMP
setting, it recognizes that Roland and names it in the SoundDiver as the OUT
device.... it probably doesn't help much... but that's the best I can explain..
and it was plug and play for me...maybe I just turned out lucky!
I don't know how the Johnson program works, but with SoundDiver, I can ask the
program to scan the PC and look for MIDI instrument... maybe there is such a
functionnality on Johnson's program. Also, the SoundDiver will recognize my
V-AMP only if this one is in MIDI mode that I have to turn on manually by
accessing the presets and taping on my A button of the V-AMP. maybe there is
also something similar with Johnson...
good luck!

In article <3beb...@dnews.tpgi.com.au>, er...@idataconnect.com says...
I don't think you have mentioned your operating system. My home
computer has Win 98SE and Win 2000. It works fine with Win98SE not on
2000. J-Station's Midi switch is on the right. Have you tried
installing the latest J-Edit version?
