I recently bought a brand new Amtech Age Pro echo unit from Sweden.
This unit really does it. It is so much better than the previous
Amtech Age One, because of the great possibilities in selecting the
exact echo pattern You like.
It does everything that Amtech Age One does, and some nice extra
features.
I am very fond of Hank Marvin. Have been for many years. Allthough I
have played guitar for 40 years (I am currently age 53 male)and have
allways had a very fine echo (mainly a combination of my own making),
I have never been able to match the exact Hank B. Marvin Echo sound, -
until now!!!
I use the selector position 6 (3 playback "heads" with the
regeneration a bit shorter in loop than the first attack). This
setting in internally fixed, and very fine for "fast" melodies.
"Shadoogie", "In the Mood", "Flingel Bunt" a.s.o., but for slower
melodies like "Don´t cry for me Argentina", "Cavatina" (Deerhunter)
a.s.o., the new feature (selection 7) where You can switch in 5
playback positions at your liking (typically 0Ø0ØØ (Ø is on))just like
when Hank Marvin switched off the 2. playbackhead in a 4 playback
unit, really does the trick.
The last feature is selection 8, and allow you to set the playback
volume level from pots on the back of the unit. Amtech suggest (from 1
to 5) 0,0,30%, 60% and 100%. The repeat level rises, and acts just
like the old vintage Echolette Klemt echo machine.
All in all, - a Very Fine Machine.
However, You need to be carefull about the speed button, as a wrong
speed setting according to the beat, is crusial. Experiment with speed
matching the Beat or triolizing according to the rythm. Finally it is
possible to achieve a booklet of settings to this Unit from Geoff
(shad...@shadowsland.freeserve.co.uk) in GB. He doesn´t charge much,
and with the settings of Geoff, You are well on your way.
Funny how the Echo unit seems to add both Reverb and Echo to the
sound.
Only now I understand why I have never been able to match that Hank B.
Marvin sound before.
I have of course other things in my rig to help me get the right
sound, - and if anyone have an interest in this, I will publish my
setup.
