I recently picked up a used Rocktron Hush IIb, and I'm trying to figure out
where to put it in my rack. I figured if I used it in the effects loop on
my Nomad 45, it would get rid of some of the white noise the amp makes, but
as per Mesa's suggestion I keep the effects mix no higher than 9 o'clock.
Wouldn't that affect the effectiveness of the Hush? My only other option is
to put it before the preamp, but then the only other thing in the line is
the guitar. Suggestions?

You are right. In order to get the full benefit of the Hush action, you'll
need to use the FX loop mix at full wet. I believe that model Hush had an
"instrument level" setting so you *could* try it between guitar and amp and
see if you like it. It may be trickier to set the threshold there, and it
probably won't really zap the amp hiss, just whatever hum your guitar picks
up.

i also use a nomad 45, and i've got to say... i keep the effects loop wet mix
at 100%. it's too difficult to mess with the mix controls on, say, my line 6
dl-4 AND the nomad's effects loop in addition. the delay is never loud enough
if the effects loop mix isn't at 100%... and maybe i don't have such a critical
ear, but i don't detect any tone loss. i'd just say crank the effects loop mix
to 100% and be done with it! hehe.
