Schenker use a V->wab->Marshall 1987 (50W non-master). Depending on
which JCM you use, you can get very close or can't get in the ballpark.
Like most of the greats, most of it's in his hands!

Can you give us the actual link. I couldn't guess it from what you gave.
Thanks,
Ross
Since the JCM 800 has a limited amount of pre-gain you need some
help.Try picking up a Boss OD3 or a Super OD.That will give you some
added boost into the front of the amp without coloring the guitars
natural sound.Tweak the settings that sound good to your ears, but make
sure the tone isnt too raspy. Also make sure you dont add too much
drive(from pedal) as you dont want the guitars signal clipping at
input.You also need a good Wah pedal,say a crybaby or a vox.Plug your
guitar into the Wah first and then the OD unit. With the neck pickup
selected, volume all the way up,and the tone nob between 6&8,crack the
Wah open about halfway.Move it ever so slightly up or down, and you will
find the "sweet spot". You should then hear the open "AAHH" vowell
sound. From there you can go about tweaking the amp>Make sure starting
out your preamp volume is on 10.This should give you the basis for that
elusive sound I have the impression you are looking for. However, without
a Bradshaw rack and tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear working
simultaneously with the help of a tech doing program changes for you,its
really hard to get a high profile players sound down these days.

Greg,
Check my other post on this. I just found a recent interview with
Schenker and he apparently still gets his sound with the Gibson V,
Crybaby, and a Marshall 1987 with a touch of echo here and there -
no racks, no funky effects. I think most people would be surpised how
many of their heroes get the best tones from a guitar into a non-master
amp with no/little effects.
Ross
PS_can you name me guitarsts who you suspect may have been influenced or
have integrated MS's stylings into their playing??I can think of a few.
Gary Moore
John Norum
John Sykes
Malmsteen
Randy Rhodes
Steve Vai
Brian May(no kidding, they used to hang Queen opened for the
Scorps,way back when)
George Lynch
Uli-Jon Roth (oops,just kidding,Michaels mentor De Facto)
.......dont forget ''Ad van den Berg", and then especially listen
to his solo in the song: ''Burning hearth", by the band also called
''Vandenberg'', He must have practiced years to get this typical
Michael solo!
He has got the exact Michael sound, only its impossible to
get the same feeling and timing als M., but he comes close,
I never heard anyone getting so close to M.
Vincent...........
by the way I previously owned a JCM 800
now I play a JCM 2000 dsl 100,
and I do own a Wah, but a cheap one.........
but I will experiment!
My flying-V in the neck pick up position, tone at 7
(but the bridge pick up also delivers a good, rough and edgy
M. sound, esp. for the rythm)
the wah half open, lot of gain on the amp(ultra gain, lead 2)
middle at 9, treble at 5, bass at 8, reverb at 6
I dont have a Boss, but I do have a MXR, but I dont think
a JCM 2000 should use an extra OD..........
now I only need a chorus..........
(and Michaels style, but thats hard to get!!!!)
I will experiment further, thank you all a lot so far,
Vincent..........
