i have been trying to sell my tube king recently, and a prospective buyer
has brought up a good question that i was not able to answer. he asked if
my pedal had the noise reduction feature. i had to tell him that i honestly
did not know. in fact, i didn't know that the tube king had such a feature.
anyway, my pedal was made in november of 1997 according to the sticker on
the bottom. when was the noise reduction feature added to the tube king? i
can't seem to find any switch or knob inside or outside of the pedal that
would control such a feature. i have read from the harmony central reviews
that it is possible to switch it off, and even adjust the threshold
according to one reviewer. am i just missing something? i'd like to find
out a little more about this pedal and this particular feature. if there is
anyone out there with some info on this i would graciously appreciate it.

thanks,

chris c.

btw- the pedal is still for sale if anyone is interested!!!

I just bought a Tube King off ebay - I am not having a lot of luck with it,
it seems the main thing the on-off switch does is turn the red led on, and
boost
the signal a little - surely this can't be right ? I don't have a noise
reduction feature
either and mine was made in 1996.

god I am getting so fed up with effects, amps and leads that don't work
properly,

Alex

are you getting noise out of it? did you notice that the input and output
jacks on the top are reversed (input on the left and output on the right)
and unlike most other pedals (input on the right and output on the left).
this was my first problem with the pedal, but it was easily solved when i
noticed my own foolishness. . . if that isn't the problem, then maybe it is
the tube inside??? do you have a spare 12ax7 or compatable that you could
test it with?

hope it helps!

thanks Chris,

- no, I realised pretty quickly about the input and output being reversed ! lol

it just seems like the trigger switch has no effect, there is very little
bypass.
I might buy another valve and check it out just in case.

thanks,

Alex

I think that the Ibanez Tube King noise reduction feature was a
casualty of later model changes and the switch to US manufacture of
the pedal.

My own Tube King is one of the original Japanese units (age unknown,
but it is serial number #90!), and has a tiny Off/On switch and small
Threshold potentiometer under the label "Noise Reduction", between the
Input and Output sockets. These two control an effective and sensitive
noise gate that can eliminate hum and other such 'between note'
noises.

As Mikey B. says, the noise reduction feature was removed a few years
ago. If you don't know whether your pedal has it, then you can be
pretty sure it doesn't.

With respect to the Alex's message about the Tube King seeming not to
work properly, it definitely isn't. Mine has a huge amount of boost
available.

you noted that your pedal was made in japan? i thought, maybe incorrectly,
that the noise reduction feature was a late addition to the tube king. in
addition, i also thought that the production of the first tube king effect
pedals occurred in japan with later production moving to the US. my pedal
is US made (during Nov of 1997, in fact), but it does not have the noise
reduction feature. are my either of my first two presumptions wrong? has
the noise reduction feature been taken in and out of the design several
times? am i reversed on where i think production occurred throughout the
years?

thanks again,

chris c
