Digitech vs DOD Grunge?

Anyone ever do a side-by-side comparison of the DOD Grunge and the
Digitech version?

I ask because I've started using my DOD Grunge again. I'm still using
my beloved Boss FZ-2 for rhythm parts. Nothing in this world sounds
heavier for riffs and power chords. But the Grunge sustains better for
leads, and gets along better with my wah.

Since I bought the DOD pedal for $20 at a pawn shop, I don't know how
long it will last. It's holding up fine, but sooner or later... who
knows? The Digitech model seems to have a sturdier switch, and no
plastic battery door to lose. But does it sound the same?

I guess I could always stock up on DOD Grunges. I know where I can
find at least 2 more in the $20 - $25 range. I could start a
stockpile...

I've got a DOD compressor/sustainer that I've had for well over 20
years. No problems!

I always thought the Digitech Grunge sounded similar to the Boss Metal
Zone, but with more meat and less "bees in a can". I actually like
it, not as sloppy as the name suggests.

I confess I had avoided it based on what the name suggests. I'll have
to check one out sometime.

I tend to favor the Digitech GXN2 line , but also have
Boss and Tube screamer collecting dust .. YMMV .

DOD actually gave a grunge pedal to Kurt Cobain. He hated it.

Someone here once said it sounds more like Buzz Osborne of The Melvins
than Nirvana. I think they're right. It's somewhere between a Big Muff
(minus the buzziness) and a Metal Zone (minus the midrange honk). It's
not very versatile. Even with the distortion all the way down, it's
pretty dirty.

Follow-Up:

Up until now, I've been using the Grunge at bedroom volumes. But on
Friday I tried it through a 100w stack, and it was totally
uncontrollable. The feedback was ridiculous (not musically useful
feedback, just piercing noise).

So this pedal is okay for low volumes, but for gigs, forget it.

I've only used it at low volumes as well.

Did you try dialing it down when you cranked up?

Yep. As you know, there's quite a lot of distortion, even when the
gain is on zero. So I turned the gain all the way down and messed with
the level. Even below unity, it fed back. Dialing the treble down
didn't help, either.

I've used the same guitar (SG copy with GFS humbuckers) and amp (70's
Ampeg V4) with several different fuzzes and distortions, and never had
it freak out like this. Even my Boss FZ-2, set to uber-fuzz doesn't
feed back unless I want it to. I'm afraid the Grunge is never going to
leave my house again. I'll keep it for recording at home, but I'll
never plug it into anything bigger than a practice amp.

Been fooling around with my stereo rig - clean/clean of late...I usually
run it dirty/clean. But with both sides clean it positively sparkles,
especially with my P-90 Les Paul which is the hottest set of pickups I
have in my arsenal.

But all I need do is stomp on my OCD and I get all the roar I want out
of it - OCD runs into a TTE which splits to stereo, so the OCD makes
drive to both amps. I can dial the OCD in for hot/borderline feedback,
or just for a little extra crunch/boost. I love my OCD!
