My 12 year old son recently took up the guitar and wanted to be able to
talk with other beginning students like him self. Since there aren't any
other guitar students around us, we went looking for an on-line group he
could join. It only took minutes to find this cesspool.
The language you people use here and the way you treat each other is
horrible!
Dont you realize that many beginning guitarist are children and Im
sure at least some of them find their way here. Especially considering
the ease to which it took for us to find this group.
Many of the things you discuss have nothing to do with guitar playing
and aren't appropriate for children to read.
The worst of you seems to be that Mr. Lemke. Hes exposing children to
graphically violent and sexual explicit language. And for what? Because
someone illegally downloaded some music! Which is worse?
At the very least, hes guilty of an egregious lack in judgment. The
rest of you aren't much better!
Youd think someone who claims to have at least a minor celebrity would
try and protect that.
I doubt he cares about what I have to say so lets see if some news
media outlets or childrens advocacy groups do. Maybe after their
through with him, hell be able to live out that sick prison fantasy of his.

I feel you but it's not that simple, Kathy. First of all, your son didn't
sign up for Usenet. You did. When you signed up, I'm sure you were notified
that this place consists of a lot of "adult language" and you were advised
therein.

I really don't know how else to break this bad news to you. Forget about
putting Mr. Lemke in prison. There are far worse things going on in Usenet
than the stupidity Mr. Lemke posts and lives by.

They haven't put a person in prison for being stupid yet in the USA, and he
isn't going to be the first. So plesae don't waste your efforts on him.

Other than that I can tell you that I'm the only one who matters in music
and guitar music. I hope to open a Nuclear Warrior Music School which will
become the only accredited musical outlet on Earth. You and your son will
have to wait a bit until I get the website designed. It's nice meeting you.

Maybe this ladys comments will change this group to going back to
helping beginners rather than the Lumpy prison board.

Try www.teenspot.com. If you think you're going to make a dent in Usenet I
can tell you ahead of time try www.teenspot.com. That may help you and your
son with his music. The only thing you'll draw from here if you're not fully
prepared is (god forbid) a heart attack.

IF this post is on the up-and-up, I must commend you for your outstanding
parenting. After all, who could even imagine that usenet newsgroups are a
cesspool! Why, just sampling a few of them at random, foul language,
one-upsmanship, and the like would be the LAST thing I would expect on a
usenet newsgroup.

That was sarcasm, in case you're wondering.

On the other hand, as the Brits say, I rather suspect someone is taking the

Not everybody understands how usenet works Rich. Maybe they come in from
Yahoo ,Google or the like and think it's part of that organization and
controlled by them. After all, who would think Google would put their
reputation in harms way by hosting a "cesspool".
There are plenty of very good groups on usenet, they're called
"moderated". I've even seen un-moderated groups that were good simply
because the regulars ignored all the Lumpy's and Wereo's who didn't stay
long since they couldn't get a rise out of anyone.
Proof that when everyone works together as a team and sticks to a plan,
good things can happen.
This groups been a lot better for me since I put the Lump-0-shit on my
filters. It's a shame I still see some of his tripe in others replies.
Wereo's harmless, takes everybody's abuse in stride and can occasionally
be entertaining, so he hasn't made my filters list yet.
I think this my be my first post here this year. I mostly lurk, getting
what info. I can but since Lumpy tends to highjack most the topics and
bend them to his own (a sign of a troll) its been pretty worthless
around here as of late.
It's a shame, you guys have a lot to offer beginners, even Lumpy, if he
were civilized.

Well, I guess I don't have such an optimistic view of any organization whose
main purpose in life is to make money. They do whatever they can get away
with in this pursuit. This isn't "evil", it's just the nature of the beast.
And I do think parents of a child that age have an obligation to check out
what their kid is doing. I know I have when my kids were that age.

But mainly that's beside the point. Really, I think "Kathy" is a pseudonym
for someone who's been posting to or lurking in this group for quite a
while. If I really thought "Kathy" were a concerned parent, I wouldn't have
used that tone.

Agreed, there are some good non-moderated usenet groups. Anyone with any
sense ignores or kilfiles the Wereos. The Lumpys are another matter. To my
way of thinking, Lumpy is a classic case as to the value of non-moderated
groups. Yeah, he can be a pain in the ass, and I think he has a few
unresolved personal issues. But he brings as much valuable on-topic content
to this group as ANYONE. That's why I sometimes nag him about his (in my
view) odd behavior rather than killfile him, and it's why when I get in a
pissing contest with him I try to drag him back to on-topic subjects.

I can understand why his behavior would be sufficiently bothersome to some
folks to the degree they'd killfile him. Personal choice. But that's what
unmoderated newsgroups are about, personal choice, and for me if a guy
contributes the degree of on-topic content that Lumpy does, I'll consider
that weighing more importantly than the guy periodically degenerating into
a-hole mode.

I do think we'd be a lot better off if we avoided the personal attacks,
especially in this group where many of them seem extremely silly to me.

Then take your prudish little ass over to one of those

They won't need to be. They'll be defined by some moderator.

Well, this is a perspective I hadn't thought about. I'm sure you're
right and kids do occasionally come this way (food for thought guys?).
A lot of parents I know have no idea what their kids are doing on the
net nor do they seem to care. They always say they're to busy or don't
understand that stuff. In my opinion, they don't care.
I don't think what they're exposed to here is any worse than what's on
prime-time TV these days.
I think you realize that nothing illegal is going on here and that's why
you're hinting at frying Craig in the court of public opinion. 'Where
everybody's guilty until the damage is done and it's to late to reverse
it no matter how Innocent they are'. Everybody remember Enron and Arthur
Anderson? Thousands lost their jobs needlessly.
Go for it! I dare you! ;-}
We all know the media loves to tear down even minor celebrities to build
their ratings up. And advocacy groups are always willing to destroy
someone if it will further their cause.
Here's a couple hints:
There a hundreds if not thousands of religious groups that want to
censor the internet. Maybe you could find one of them that is willing to
turn Craig into their poster boy for internet abuse.
Also Craig recently posted a link to a group that wants to make it so no
one can post anonymously to the net. Find a group that apposes that and
they can say; "See, he doesn't post anonymously and he's still one of
the nets biggest a**holes so why bother".
There are also plenty of ppl here he's offended so maybe some of them
will be willing to give you a hand finding an organization willing to
fry our little fish.
Good luck with it.

I don't see the value in Lumpy that Rich does. I find him considerably
