When I first began playing about 10 months ago the first songs I played were
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in A Small Town by Pearl Jam, Knocking on
Heaven's Door by Bob Dylan, Wish you were here by Pink Floyd, Jane Says by
janes addiction, blister in the son by the violent femmes, iron man by black
sabbath, landslide by fleetwood mac, come as you are by nirvana, and a whole
bunch of intros like redemption song by marley. All of them except for
landslide I got off the internet. None of these songs use barre chords and
all of them sound good on an accoustic. You'll find that a lot of tabs on
the internet are wrong and there's usually more then one version pick the
one you like best. But if you want to have the most fun pick songs you
like(like I did) and are playable at your level. Use good technique and
play in position you'll find that once you've learned your first couple
songs you'll be able to play just about any open chord song also practice
playing barre chords. Listen to the song and pick up the rythm and try
playing along with the song too. Don't get discouraged at the beginning
everyone sucks so you just gotta practice a lot. So good luck.

Run around by blues traveler G C Am D
Save tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry Am F C G
BOth songs have the same chord progression through out the whole song.
They don't get complicated until you try to play the lead guitar part.

two words:

THE BEATLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In most peoples opinion, the beatles had some of the alltime greatest acoustic
songs, and hardly any of them were very complicated. A beginning guitarist's
dream! Try "Blackbird" , "8 Days a Week" "I've just seen a face" , "Yesterday"
, "You've got to Hide your love away" , "Here comes the sun" , "In my life" ,
"I Will", and about two dozen others...

Yeah, the beatles are great. I discovered them a few years ago when I was about
17. Before I satisfied my curiosity, I bought every beatle cd, a ton of Lennon
and McCartney solo stuff, and got into a little bit of Harrison and Starr.
They really did have unbelieveable songs, and almost all of them can easily be
played on a guitar. If I could suggest some to learn to play, I would learn
"In my life", "Norwegian Wood", "And I love Her", and "Julia".... Also learn
"Blackbird". Those are probably my favorite songs of theirs to play. The good
thing about them is that the songs are so simple..., but they still sound
great!

On the subject of the Beatles, if you can get hold of a copy of this month's
"Total Guitar" magazine (UK) it has a great feature on the Beatles'
songwriting styles and tricks. About 14 pages or so, giving breakdowns of
chord sequence construction for many songs and examples of their techniques.

It's well worth reading if you can find it anywhere.

I loved them at about 11, and a had a freind who liked them from about 6.

Some of the Verve is easy to play, and Wonderwall, you have to learn that
because it's soooooo good. Ohhhhhhh, yes.
