That's nice and all well and good for collectors.

But for myself, I am in this to "play dat thang" rather than
to collect them and hope nobody breaks in and steals them
things. Or they's not go sproing in the night.

The less I have of any value, the more liberated I feel.

Of course, one can be too liberated - you just gotta have some
balance in that.

I have and do play the heck out of it., (as with everything I own, I
enjoy em ). It's just kind of a treat to see how well you picekd em in
the first place..

JMP MKII 50 watt Marshall ( holly grail of marshalls some would say )-
paid $800
Hiwatt 400 ( The Bass Amp - 100 made)- paid $1000
Heil stereo tube guitar pre amp ( hand made by Bob Heil for the James
Gang - ~ 20 made)- paid $50
All are priceless to me - wouldn't part with any of them.. Ed

I've never owned anything whose value has increased spectacularly, I never
had either the money or the interest to buy big name gear when I was young.
I have bought a few expensive acoustics that turned out to be dogs, so I'm a
bit more discriminating now.

If I still had what I had.....
But time marches on and you never know when you will need the extra $.
I still have a few classics that I don't even play.
They are money in the bank for when I need it.
Better interest than a savings account in the bank.

I tend to hang onto things. The only guitar I've ever sold was a 70's era
Gibson L6S. Never did like the sound all that much. Everything else I've
kept, from 1965 on. But not because of increased value, I'm just
sentimental and I can't let go.

I've got a '79 4001 that I got a couple of years ago for ~$1000. It's my
favorite bass.

I'm the other way round (in recent decades, anyway). If I
don't need it, I sell it and use the money for something else.

The only things I kept were some small items like the Intel
8008 CPU chip (not 8080) from my first home built computer.
This was before computers got personal in the S100 bus age
where hobbiests dreamed of owning a floppy drive. I eventually
sold the 8008 chip on ebay for $120 (I think I paid $5 or so
for it).

I've had hamradio gear stolen from my car.

When the insurance replaced the radio with a new one.. I
later stored it, as then I no longer had time for radio. In
later years when I tried to sell it, I found out that it now
had a transmit problem.

Everything corrupts or gets stolen (or an animal domestico
does something to it). Even my old truck got stolen a couple
of years ago (I never expected that old thing to be wanted!)

If you use something then I agree that there's no reason to
sell it.

But if I haven't touched something in say 3-5 years, it goes
out the door. If I can't sell it, I give it away or depending
upon what it is, goes out to the end of the driveway. No
looking back.

I don't have the space nor inclination to run a museum. I uses
what I uses and loses the rest.

Snark.

haven't been in the position where I Needed to sell much since I was
abot 24 or so, and I've always had enough room for "junk". I might
have inherited the junk collector gene from gandpa .. he had a mile
square in the desert full of stuff !!

visiting your way?
