What are your opinions on this guitar. I think it is beautiful looking.
How would it be for rock (no metal)?

Any general comments? I haven't heard much about this model.

I don't have this guitar, but I have a friend that has one and loves it. It
has a real nasty raw tone. Good for rock, but probably wouldn't be good for
metal

I had one. It's a really well-made guitar with a very nice neck. The pickups
are American-made DeArmond single coils. I thought the guitar played very
well, silky smooth, but I wasn't in love with the sound. I thought the
guitar was better suited to jazz, personally. That's why I was surprised at
the sound clip Fender chose for this guitar on their site. It's very
distorted.

Overall, it's a fine guitar, but you would need to hear it to make a
decision.

I know Gibson has sound clips on their site but I can't find any sound clips on
the Fender site. Where are they?

Try this:
http://www.fender.com/electricguitars/teles/amerspecial/amerspecial_telesoni
c.html

Click on the little "listen here" button underneath the text, above the
color samples. The first snippet is fairly clean, the "School's out," and
the other one aren't.

I figured out the problem. It only works with Internet Explorer and not
Netscape. I opened up IE and the button appeared.

Thanks for the help.

well, here's a good comment on opinions...i think it's one of the butt
ugliest guitars i ever saw PLUS it's over priced. For that money i'd
sooner have the 52 vintage Tele reissue. Or if set neck it yer thing
the set neck squier with the pickups replaced with some good ones.

Any Strat wins the butt ugliest award in my book along with most Tele's.
What is it about Fender and design? Any Les Paul looks good but it's the
rare Fender of any kind that looks decent. They either have terrible
wood/color combinations or ridiculous looking pickguards or both.

here i beg to differ, the strat and the tele are the foundation of all
electric guitars. All the LP is is a normal acoustic with a single
cutaway (basically). I never have been a real strat fan but millions
of guitars have been made using that as the design. Your point about
pickguards, in a round about way, is a good one. Lots of companys fail
at making a pick guard design pleasing to the eye. It must be tempting
to go crazy on some new idea as it's easy to cut out thin plastic. I
guess that's most of why i think that telesonic is so ugly, that and
the pickups (they look like some kinda crap you'd find in some sears
guitar or an early jap guitar-these are truly the ugliest guitars ever
made as a whole). you wanna see ugly? hahaha, this guitar looks like
some Bizarro world creation...

this baby falls in the so ugly it's almost cool group, hehe.

Regarding your link, I agree that's one ugly guitar. I also agree that the stat and tele are basically what most other
guitars are based on but they are still ugly and fender has done nothing to help. How about staining the head to match the
body! How about routing out the back so that the hugh pickguards aren't needed!
If you like the looks of any Tele's then I would think that you would love the look of the Tele-Sonic. At least the
pickguard isn't a large as the others, at least the control knobs are directly mounted through the wood without that
vertical chrome bar that is on every other Tele. At least I can picture someone other than Buck Owens using the Tele-Sonic.
Just my opinion.

Speaking of funny shaped guitars, I saw a link once for a company that makes
a line of guitars specially shaped for women. I didn't check it out, and
now I can't seem to find anything like this (but I imagine they are shaped
funny, too). Anyone know of anything like this?
Thanks

you need to look at the Stagemasters, i think you'd like them.

it's the SHAPE of the ugly ass thing. It SUCKS. Clearly an attempt to
cash in on retro Danelectro kinda thing. I had a silver metalflake P
bass once. Guy had taken OUT the pick guard except for a little tear
drop kinda thing to hold the knobs and input jack, it looked GOOD.

At least I can picture someone other than Buck Owens using the
Tele-Sonic.

correct me if i'm wrong but is'nt his usual guitar an ugly ass big
red, white and blue striped thing? He'd sure know about ugly.

My taste in music is probably similar to yours. I play in rock
and blues styles, but no metal. I got rather fascinated with the
Dearmond single-coil pickups after hearing them in a Dearmond guitar
at the local Guitar Center. After they bought Dearmond, Fender tried
out the pickups as replacements for P-90s in a "Tele Jr." type design
and called it "Telesonic". They decided "hey that's cool", then got
the idea for the Dearmond line of guitars to show off the pickups.
Also, it's fairly well known that the Gretsch "57" reissue line
is using Dearmonds made by Fender and calling them "Dynasonics" (when
asked on fenderforum.com, a Fender rep. did everything short of flat
out saying this).
During my infatuation period, I played every guitar I could get
my hands on that had Dearmond single-coils. I think they sound best
on the Dearmond guitars and my favorite was the M75T (which has been
replaced by M77T now). For some reason, the Telesonic sounded
different from an M75T in direct comparisons. The Telesonic didn't
sound as good to me, plus there was a big price difference.
The Gretsch's equipped with "Dynasonics" sounded inferior to the
Dearmonds or the Telesonic, to my ears. Also, they cost a fortune.
I was meaning to get an M75T, but I waited too long as prices
were falling. Next thing I knew, the model was discontinued and
replaced by the M77T. Problem is, I've never seen an M77T in a store
yet. If you can find one, give it a try! Sounds better than a
Telesonic in my opinion.
