I'm looking to buy a good chromatic tuner that will
work equally as well with an electric *and* acoustic
guitar. I need something that's small, portable and
with a good built in condenser microphone.

I've been looking at the Sabine AX2000 contact
tuner (looks great for acoustic guitars), the Boss
TU-12 and the small Fender LX-12.

Anyone have any opinions on what the best chromatic
tuner is for electric *and* acoustic guitars?

I've got the Boss TU-12 & like it quite a lot.

The only better tuner I've found for acoustic guitar's is OnBoard
Research's Intellitouch tuner.

I have both a Boss TU-12H and a Seiko ST-909. Both are fuly chromatic
and both are excellent tuners. My favorite is the Seiko.

I jam with some guys that use the Intelli Tuner [not sure of the
spelling]. If I was tuning strictly acoustic I would consider one more
seriously than I now do since I own strictly electric guitars.
They're ok .. but I'm not really that up on 'em. ;o) I wouldn't trade
either of my tuners for a dozen of that kind.

I've been using the Intellitouch about three months, and I'm *sold*
on it.

I play an electric and an acoustic guitar, and I use the Korg CA-20
chromatic tuner to tune them. It's very portable and the microphone for
acoustics tuning works well. It works like most other tuner, with an LCD
display showing the approximate note in the top right corner and a needle
which shows you how far sharp or flat you are of that note. Also three LEDs
above the display. When the note is perfect, just the central green light
is on. You can manually configure the note you're trying to get or if the
guitar's already tuned roughly right the tuner automatically does that.

I really like the Korg AT-120 auto chromatic tuner. It covers 8
octaves, and reads out (on a real meter) plus/minus 50 cents, so it's
also good for tuning pianos, harpsichords, etc. They cost more than
the others, but may be worth the money if you have other applications
besides simply tuning your guitar.

I have both a Boss TU-12 and a Seiko ST-909. Both are fully chromatic.
Both are fully automatic, but the Seiko also has a manual mode. Both
have input/ouputs for electric instruments and both have condenser
mikes for acoustic instruments. Both are extremely accurate, very
stable, and portable. Both run will run on an internal battery or with
an AC adapter. The Boss comes with a really neat and sturdy little
carrying case that allows the tuner to be used without removeing from
the case. The Seiko had a dial light that makes it very usable under
dim light conditions. Both have provsions for other than standard
tuning.

My favorit is the Seiko ... but the boss is also a world class tuner.
