I would just like to say in response to this bit below which was on a u2
hate page, that adam clayton
would have to be one of the shittest bass players in the world!!!!!!!
Anyone who actually CAN play bass fucken knows how shit he is.......there
are plenty better than him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like Flea, Jason Newstead, Jaco
Pastorius, Mark Smith, the late Cliff Burton, and just about anyone in the
world who has been learning bass for about a week!!!!!!!!!!! the typical
adam clayton bass line is just quavers all the way thru (a la 'with or
without you'!!!!!!!!) he is SO uncreative!!!!!!!!! the person is just
blinded and cannot see through his/her love for u2 which is pathetic!!!!!!!

You have some valid points. First off The Edge can play. You just were not
listening. Bono is not the greatest singer in the world but at least he can
carry a tune and make it popular. As for the rhythm section, I will start
with Adam Clayton whois probably one of the best if not the best bass
player. If you come up with someone else then you can tell me so. Larry
Mullen Jr. is not a flashy drummer. He is your basic drummer but has
evolved over the years to become a good drummer.

Not that I am saying Adam Clayton is the best or worst bass player (I actually
don't care), but sometimes playing just the root note of the chord is
apporpriate for the song. In my opinion, bass players need to play what is
appropriate for the song. This could mean showy, fast licks, or simple lines.
Bass needs to hold down the rythym in the band and a good bass player needs to
figure out what bass line is best to do this. Perhaps Adam Clayton thought
that his little line in "With or without you" was the best way to fill that
role. And that's the neat thing about music: if you don't like someone's style
of playing, don't bitch about it, just be a better and more interesting player
than them.

I personally like Adam Clayton's old works with U2. Even though they aren't
flashy or overdone; they fit the groove and complete the music. Everyone in
that band has their place and they do it well. That's the point.

Plus you can't really say a bassist or any musician is no good until you sit
down and jam with them. I think many of these musicians labeled as 'sucking'
would surprise the labelers alone and in person.

I watched a techno show, and I thought their guitarist was an amatuer, playing
only power-chords. But after the show, he jammed some awesome blues that blue
me away.

Adam Clayton doesn't play anthing complex, but occasionally adds subtle
variations. What he plays is often appropriate for the music though, which
is more important than chops. SOmetimes he errs on the dull side. But
playing simple lines allows The Edge more space to do what he does, so
Adam Clayton my not be technically the best, but it isn't that important.
