My brother-in-law and I were talking about famous female bass players. He
wants me to teach my niece (13 years old) how to play the bass. We started
talking about female bass players and both were stumped for names.

The only female bass players I know are Carol Kaye, Talking Head's bass
player, and Prince's bassist.

Please post the name of a female bass player and the her band. Thanks.

Oh hell, I can't remember all their names but:

D'Arcy from Smashing Pumpkins
The other chick from White Zombie
One other chick from Coal Chamber

Of course, this is all heavy rock, but that's the only ones I know.

Last I heard (a couple of days ago) Melissa Auf der Maur has replaced
D'Arcy in Smashing Pumpkins and Hole is looking for a new (decidedly
female) replacement.

before. I have to find the address. There were about 50 or 60 names of
female bass players listed there.

I mentioned Tracy earlier and also Cheryl Crow, but the wankers
don't like her becasue she only uses one finger. Great tone live,
Stingray thru a B-15.

I saw Tracy w/ Sting in late 80's, she was very good, but I find
Sting very boring since Police days.

M. Steele is good, played a Musicman Sabre (the rare 2 pickup model)

A little obscure and perhaps not hugely famous at all, but I'll add:

Enid Williams of Girlschool
Jackie Fox of The Runaways (the spawning ground for Joan Jett and Lita Ford)

In response to your request about women bass players, Guitar World (June 95)
had an article listing Sean Yseult of White Zombie, Kim Coletta of Jawbox, and
Gail Greenwood of Belly. There are, of course, other women who play bass....the
Go-Go's, the Bangles, Bananarama, etc.
