You don't have any damaged in transit 5 string ESP basses do you?
I'm still looking for a donor bass for my 8 string bass project - I'm
leaning towards ESP/LTP basses at the moment - it's not clear from the
various specs if they all have EMG pickups - and more importantly how
can I tell which EMG pickups have solid magnet pickups (I know the hz
ones do) rather than designs with pole pieces for individual strings?
There's an ESP Ltd-205 on the local eBay equivalent - it looks like a
possibility.
I'm considering 5 string basses for the donor mostly as many modern 4
strings tend to skinny necks and headstocks that are way too small to
carry any extra tuners.

Since I'm in the same city where they're made, I'm not so sure it benefits
you in any way. But you're welcome.

Absolutely!
Did you read the reviews? They are a scream!

That's a good suggestion - it was also pretty much the first thing I did
- although I asked about any trashed 5 strings they might have. They
did once have an LTD 8 string in one of their shops but I seem to recall
it didn't have separate saddles for the octave strings - which is the
only reason I didn't buy it on the spot - although I now have an 8
string bridge so I could just swap that.
I did also think about donning a cap and hoodie, running into the shop,
randomly damaging an LTD 5 string and then coming back in a few days
later.
My honest streak quashed that plan very quickly though.

That's really good to know.

Thanks.
Some import Kramers have "Dual Rail" PUs
which are decent PU's and have no focused
pole pieces per string [e.g. "dual RAIL"].
You can pick theses up dirt cheap.
Mine has a 5-way switch as well, and if ever
I were to junk this ax, I'd keep not only the
PU's but the switch and wiring as well. Mine
is only 4-strings, so no use in you trying to
bum it offa me !
