Roger Sadowsky and others recommend Boiled Linseed Oil over Lemon Oil. I've
used both over the years, but the contention that the Lemon Oil you get may
not be pure and could be sticky could be valid, thought it's never been a
problem. However, I recently picked up a pint can of Boiled Linseed Oil at
the hardware store and it did quite a good job at cleaning and treating the
fingerboard of a used bass I bought.

Does anyone know where to get boiled linseed oil in the UK? The DIY shops
don't sell it, and the local hardware shop has none either.

Tony.

I don't know if all linseed oil is boiled linseed oil or not, but I have
some linseed oil kicking around that I used in oil painting, so a shop
that sells artist's stuff should have some (could be pricey though).
Also, isn't it used for cricket bats? If so, maybe a fancy sports shop
in summer? Or you could try Boots - they have a lot of odd checmicals
and stuff if you ask at the dispenary part.

Cancel that - dug my bottle out of the appropriate box of stuff and it
says "Raw Linseed Oil", so I guess it's different stuff to boiled.
Otherwise, I was thinking I could just post you it! If you fancy
boiling it yourself, you're welcome... :-)

Sorry, making my own little thread here, but just found:

http://www.shopcreator.com/mall/BarrettineWoodcare/products/product-22717.stm

The second and third appear to sell within the UK (and it makes sense -
raw lineed oil takes forever to dry).
