not ne cessarily for myself, but it looks like a sweet deal. I've
played the OLP's MM line before and they're pretty good for the money.
I'd think that because this is clost to mint as the seller describes
and it's a discontinued sig. line, they ought to get more than $240.00
out of it, though.
But then again... maybe not.

Well, it would have been $350 new, so $240 used for a bass in good
condition is pretty reasonable.
They are certainly excellent instruments for the money - but I doubt
they will ever become collectible.

If only I was just a little closer...
$240 + freight halfway around the world (nearly that much again
probably) is just above my budget - but it is still tempting.

===============
I'm the seller. $240 is what I paid for it, and that's all I want to get out
of it, considering what they originally sold for.
If you'd like to pay the shipping, I'll weigh it & figure it all out. My
wild guess is that it'll total out to around $300, considering packaging,
shipping cost, and insuring the bejeezus out of it.
You already own one of these, don't you? Or is it someone else here?
Man, I didn't knwo it was your's. I thought it was something you found
and posted.
when and why did OLP tank? That's news to me....

I do, indeed. I also need a donor bass for my 8 string conversion
project and this would be just about perfect. Occasionally passive
OLP's come up on our Ebay equivalent - but they are usually just a tad
overpriced. The TL models were never officially imported here - I got
mine direct from the states the last time your dollar was in the toilet
- and I'm tempted to do so with this one (as your dollar is once again
in the toilet) except it would require a bit more fuss to arrange.
Any idea what it would cost to ship? And, how often do rafts leave for your
island?
That's what I thought too! Joe if you end up with no local takers let
me know - it's a bit of a stretch - especially with this broken arm
having eaten into this years finances - but might be doable.
> when and why did OLP tank? That's news to me....
The OLP project came off the rails quietly and without much fuss about a
year ago - not that long after they announced the new active models.
There are various rumours on various internet sites - some say the
consortium lost money on every bass due to a combination of the quality
control standards required by ernie ball and the low price point
required to compete in the 'off brand/clone' market - and there's little
doubt that these are great value for money instruments. There's also a
suggestion that they were undermining their own 'Sub' range of lower
priced Ernie Ball instruments - particularly with the two pickup active
OLP's - why would anyone buy a 'Sub' when they can get an equivalent
bass for a fraction of the price?
Either way it seems when contract re-negotiation time came around with
the various parties (OLP was a consortium of Ernie Ball, Spector, Traben
and a couple of other US brands + the chinese manufacturers) obviously
the negotiation failed.
Thus ending an interesting experiment just at the point where OLP looked
like it might become a sought after brand in its own right.
Just one negotiator at the moment - a local college kid who's asking me to
drop the price to $200.00. My son's also a starving (not really) college
student, so I can sympathize. I'm thinking about it. But there's a used
Peavy Cirrus 6-string that's been haunting me, and I need every penny I can
get right now.

The last one cost $245 Fedex - but that would put it beyond the budget.
I think that may have been 'express' shipping - using the expensive
motorised rafts - so we'll need to find a cheaper option - maybe taking
the neck off and sending in two smaller parcels by normal mail or
something.
That's just ridiculous.
> That's just ridiculous.
It is a lot of freight.
Last time I was buying a new bass, and got a couple of other things at
the same time like a gig bag etc. to make the freight seem less
ridiculous - but $245 freight on a $240 bass doesn't make sense.
I should've entered the Frommer's "win a trip down under" contest a few
months back. I've played all sorts of clubs, but never a club filled with
kangaroos.

Those are on the 'west island'
gotta watch out for those clubs filled with kangaroos:

My bet would be that the dog acting in an aggressive manner towards that
kangaroo - perhaps even biting it. Kangaroos are large animals (smaller
species are usually called wallabies) and can be aggressive.
The man and dog most likely mistook the kangaroo for a 'cute looking
lovable creature' and learned a valuable lesson about nature.
I'm sure there are similar dog/man vs cute looking bear stories from
your part of the world.
Lots of incidents where dogs mistake ME for a friendly creature. That's
always fun.

No, it's worse than that, they carry Prada.

Sorry - I was multitasking and made a mistake. I meant to say "Not enough
beer?"
eh, never mind....
Do bass guitars have ears? The guy who's buying the bass asked "It doesn't
have any noise from the plug, right?" It didn't, so I said no. I just
plugged it in to play it one last time and of course, it crackled when I
moved the plug around. It's not the cord, unless 3 different cords all went
bad at the same moment.
There goes a nice afternoon of reading on the sofa.
Did you spray the plug end with D5 to see if it was oxidation? If it's
not, jack wear is normal wear.

D5? No, and the only store in this town where I might be able to get it is
closed on Saturdays. I have to deliver the bass tomorrow.. But you reminded
me (for future reference) that I have some rigid foam rods designed for
cleaning those sockets. Buried in a box somewhere in the cellar....

Yes, clearly the only solution is to break that bass up into component
parts and mail it to me cheaply a piece at a time.
Or, you could spray contact cleaner into the cheap plastic box output
jack socket, and or bend the pins slightly.
I have a 'proper' stereo jack socket waiting for when the cheap one in
the OLP craps out - or I have a lazy afternoon when I've fixed
everything else around the house that needs fixing.
