I LOVE my Pocket Rock-It. Got it a few years ago. Great tone, but
use good headphones. The ones it comes with are throw-aways. I have
used it as a pre-amp and it gave a great punchy sound. I have the
model with chorus, "bright" and distortion. Good battery life. There
is a bit of noise when you kick up the treble, but you don't hear it
when playing. I plug my iPod or laptop in and can jam my head off at
3AM without disturbing anyone. I lent it to my guitarist after I got
it and he got one for traveling. Can't beat it for the price, IMO. I
have even used it to record directly into the Line In on my PC, it
sounded great. I can send an MP3 if you'd like to hear.

I have a Dean Bass-in-a-Box. Even with cheap headphones, IMHO it
sounds great. Fine for using open-ear headphones and playing along
with "music in the room". The Pocket Rock-it has ins and outs so you
can mix a music source into your phones and practice silently. Cheap,
too! --D-y

Beware on this one. The battery can fit into the battery cavity with
right or wrong polarity. Some units have a diagram and some do not.
Putting the battery in with wrong polarity ruins the unit. Their
customer service is very snarky and will not replace the unit if the
battery is put in wrong. Otherwise, it does have a nice sound.
"And that's why it's cheap". SOS --D-y
